MPS in the 50's?

Anyone else think so…that exam was difficult

Ummm…no

lol no way brah. it’s like 67, maybe 68%

You might want to pinch yourself.

No chance, I wouldn’t be surprised if top 1% all get close to perfect 69%-70%

That would imply that the top 1% of candidates all scored like 98%+. AF is filled with a lot of bright candidates and is certainly not representative of the entire candidate pool, but I didn’t see anyone claiming they aced the exam. A phenomenal score would be a 90 on the exam and I am sure it is pretty rare, maybe 1/250. During the grading process there is a quality control check where something like 5-10% of answer sheets are manually checked. I once heard from someone, I forget the details, that the highest score this person ever saw during the process was a 92 for L2. A 92 on L2 is absolutely beastly.

ok. i should clarify more as that didnt come across correctly. i mean i can definitely see an MPS of 58-62 given the difficulty of that exam if the CFAI is going to maintain a passage rate of 35%-45%. I dont consider myself a slouch, did very well on level 1 in december which had a 36% pass rate. felt i put in the same effort, if not more for level 2 but found the exam to be more difficult than schweser practices and CFAI mock.

I agree that it was a tough exam and would not be surprised if the MPS was in the 60’s, but the 50’s I think would be pushing it.

If you can pass L2 with just a little more effort than L1 then my hat is off to you. My latest attempt at L2 was double my L1 effort in 2009.

A minimum passing score in the 50s would also be… pretty ridiculous. CFAI would basically be saying that you are worthy of continuing the program if you know half of the material.

That isn’t true - the exam is structured in a way that I would say about 15-30 percent of the total material is tested. So you A-study your a@@ off and knew everything or B) got lucky on cramming for the exam. I find it was a big crap shoot.

I would guess around 61-63% for a pass. Max range, imo, 57-66%.

Sure, there is some score variance, but if you know 50% of the material and the 15-30% that is selected is random, then your expected score is still 50% (I guess plus 1/3 of the remaining questions, given that they are multiple choice).

I think that the MPS will be close to 70% and the pass percentage will be above 45% this year. (unless CFAI wants to screw us all and decides to raise the MPS). Almost every one on this forum said that the exam was easy. Agreed that this forum may not be representative, but I think the forum members are not far above the average.

If they set it close to 70% then passing rate would be close to 35%. 45% would be the case if they set the MPS close to 61-63%.

Speak for yourself pal!

My guess is 65%. I think of it like the passing score is a 70%, but the CFAI throws out a few bad/unfair questions, 65% will get you a pass.

Instead: Almost every one on this forum said that the exam was NOT easy

I disagree guys. Please go back and look at the posts from June 6h through June 12th. You will see what I mean. An overwhelming 80% plus thought that the exam was easier than what they had expected it to be. Even though they fell for some tricks, on an average, many felt that the exam was easy or easier compared to previous years.

I’m pretty sure you’re find the same thing any year you look through. If you look through the Results thread you’ll see about 80% pass rate on AF as well. Its been said many times before, don’t trust the sample size that is AF. The pass rate will be around 40% as it always is and the MPS will be around 64-67%. Stop worrying about if you passed or failed and wait a month.
