Municipal Bond CEFs

Anyone invest in these? Particularly in Massachusetts? I’m looking at: Massachusetts Municipal Bond CEFs Eaton Vance Insured MA Municipal Bond (MAB) Eaton Vance Massachusetts Municipal Income Trust (MMV) Nuveen Insured Massachusetts Tax-Free Advantage Municipal Fund (NGX) Nuveen Massachusetts Dividend Advantage Municipal Fund (NMB) Nuveen Massachusetts Premium Income Municipal Fund (NMT) The Massachuetts Health & Education Tax-Exempt Trust (MHE) Van Kampen Massachusetts Value Municipal Income Tr (VMV) and wondered if you all had any thoughts on these or on MB CEFs in general. Thanks.

They can be good places to stash cash. Watch the expense fees and the leverage. You can learn more about the particular issue at etfconnect.com. They will track the underlying nav. I used to invest in these type of things because it was pretty easy to see the underlying value. Sometimes they trade at 10-20% discount to nav. equity & foreign CEFs in general are good because they usually overshoot when the market is dropping…

>>I used to invest in these type of things what do you do now instead?

3 asset classes: (1) Guns and ammo. (2) Canned beans. (3) Porn.

i think you should add another uncorrelated asset class. seeds

There’s enough free porn out there that I don’t really need to consider it part of my portfolio. There is potential upside for hoarding though if it someday stops being free.

I’ve been hoarding 2-buck chuck shiraz. The 2007 is better than the 2006 and the 2006 was even pretty good.

This is quite disgusting. The world is full of great wine and you are drinking 2-buck Chuck? Great Shiraz = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penfolds_Grange

Joey, first let me complement you on your tastes. You mentioned you like fresh hoppy beer which is something we both like. Sometimes, I buy expensive wine. To my great dismay sometimes that expensive stuff doesn’t taste as good as 2 buck chuck shiraz. I drink a glass or two of wine almost every night with dinner. I can afford expensive wine but why? this stuff rocks. I have been hoarding it because it is the investment equivalent of buying AAA rated tax free municipal debt with a 12% yield.

Probably I shouldn’t comment on this much. I am too close-minded to try 2-buck Chuck. On the other hand, I wish that I could drink a glass or two of Grange with every supper but that would be quite extravagant.
