Jay-Z & Big L freestyle - youtube it b!tches and thank me later. Here is a link to and description of ‘it’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYfKMIdoJL0 “On February 23, 1995, two young, hot MC’s by the name of Big L and Jay Z attended a party in New York City that was broken up prematurely by the police. Jay Z had just signed his deal with Rocafella Records and was looking for a distribution deal to release his first CD Reasonable Doubt. Jay and Big L were friends, battled each other lyrically numerous times at shows and had a great chemistry and rapport with one another. Over the years they had built a mutual respect for one another as they admired each other’s lyrical gift. L had just released his debut CD and had a huge buzz in the streets and was looking to get some additional promotion on this evening in question. Since they had nothing going on, they drove to the studio and got in the booth live on the Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito radio show to talk about their projects. The Stretch and Bobitto show aired after midnight and was played an important role in promoting the careers of many East Coast MC’s in the mid 90’s. L and Jay arrived at approximately 2:30am and were ready to flow. What transpired next is highly regarded as one of the greatest moments in hip hop history as Jay and L traded verses on an epic 9 and a half minute freestyle. You cannot really comprehend the talent that was on display, when freestyling was actual freestyling without MC’s reading something they wrote on a sheet of paper or Blackberry. These were two of the greatest MC’s that ever existed before they were famous, in one studio together, making magic. I heard this freestyle back in 95 when I went to school at (redacted) and did not have a chance to hear it again until last night. I did an online search for it, found it and downloaded it. I will play this piece of hip hop history for you tonight. I am proud to share it with you. I hope you are as excited to hear it as I am to play it for you.”
