^^^ I was in the worst mood… good call STL! The sun is out and I’m going for run with that song stuck in my head. …actually, screw the run. I’m just going to skip down the street.
I’m absolutely an elitist, but that has nothing to do with how cringe-worthy it is seeing white guys (or indians) in their 30’s listening to rap. Exceptions include: The Beastie Boys and anyting made pre-1996.
I know more of the lyrics of that song than I care to admit, and often recite them drunk. Sometimes it goes off awesome, others not so much. The Ice Man is a beast. Also Ninja Rap. Ninja Turtles 2 Secret of the Ooze was a awesoem flick.
Well then let’s get some examples of what’s so great instead of deflecting with Dick Astley or criticising what other people listen to. I like mostly everything so always looking for good recs.
Nothing cringe worthy about anyone listening to GOOD hip hop. Ill listen to Kanye, & some Kendrick Lamar stuff now but tbh that crap most kids listen with the Fetty Wapp/Future types is terrible. Nothing wrong with some old school Tupac/Biggie/NAS/Jay Z/Common/Talib Kweli.
Listened to Tupac Hail Mary yesterday and he still goes so hard on that its crazy.
If we start at the top, it’s the holy trinity of The Beatles, The Pixies, and Nirvana. That’s fairly obvious though.
If we want to get more obscure, I highly recommend the entire album of Crystal Antlers -Tentacles.
Flavors of the day include: Leon Bridges - Coming Home; Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (whole album really) - S.O.B.; Animotion - Obsession; In the Valley Below - Peaches; Man Man - Head On; Meg Myers (everything); Milky Chance - Flashed Junk Mind (Stolen Dance is great too but over-played); Saint Motel - My Type; Walk the Moon - Different Colors; and Young the Giant - My Body.
If you like soundtracks, go with Risky Business (also a flawless movie) or Pulp Fiction (obviously flawless).
Beastie boys are the most over rated group in history. If you’ve heard one of their songs, you’re done. No need to listen to another one because they’re all exactly the same. The same cadence, same rhyming pattern. I get it…you got more beats/rhymes than everything. No need to list each one individually. Beastie boys aren’t fit to sniff the jock straps of Outkast.
EDIT: I misread STL’s holy trinity. I take it back STL, you’re not a complete ass bag.
Did I offend you at some point? This is the second time you’ve insulted me out of the blue. I can’t remember us ever getting into it or even being on opposite sides of many - if any - debates. Just curious where this is coming from.
I’m just breaking your stones to be humorous. I really thought I read your holy trinity to include the beastie boys and that threw me into a blind rage. Ass bag is a term of endearment to me. Like when I call up my best man after not talking for a while I greet him wth, “hey ass bag, what’s going on, hows it going, what’s going on? how’s your mum?”
