I have a friend who told me one of his ex coworkers was let go around Dec 09. In December he had his CPA, but had not signed up for any CFA exams. My friend told me his ex cowrked is now sending out emails and resumes as he is a CFA charter holder. Sounds fishy to me but is there a place to run a name search for actual charterholders? Maybe the guy did have it back in 2009 and my friend was oblivious at that time. I didn’t bother to get this guys name, but I wouldn’t mind getting it and then calling this guy out if he is not a CFA charter holder. I wasted too much time working on this stuff to let someone else “fake it” to help get a job that more qualified people may have…
The CFAI will verify if someone is indeed a charterholder. Just contact them

it works poorly. I tried searching a few people I know are charterholders and members and they don’t show up.

cool beans. yah, i did a search for a few of my friends. they’re all in the database.
I dont show up and im a charterholder.
I’m a charterholder and wasn’t showing up on that search link that was listed. I then logged in to update my profile (I recently changed jobs), and that search screen now works for me. Weird. Something on the update must have fixed something that was wrong in my set-up. I know they recently updated their website. I hope everyone doesn’t have to update their profile to have their names searchable…
Yeah, I can’t find half the people who I know have charters. Maybe they all lied…
I searched the first 3 charterholders in my head, and none of them came up.
Also, that search box is case sensitive. That might be an issue for some of your searches. If you typed in all lower case letters, it won’t find your name. I guess the bigger question is: What developer would put in a case-sensitive search filter???
Try this. http://www.newcfa.cfainstitute.org/ Here we find list of new CFA charterholders for 2008 and 2009.
I would call. I used the search and it did not work for many of the people from my local society. I called and verified everyone. A member can select to hide or show their profile information. I have mine hiden.
