Nasdaq OTC?

I have just come across a Qbank question in which one of the correct statements is that Nasdaq was an example of the OTC market. Is it common that stock exchanges also run OTC markets? I thought that OTC was rather a domain of investment banks…

NASDAQ has OTC

but i’ve always known it to be an exchange…

NASDAQ is OTC. Listed is generally considered NYSE and what is now NYSE AMEX. NASDAQ is officially OTC. It began as an alternative to listing on NYSE and secondary electronic market for broker/dealers. Despite its growth and market now it still is officially considered an OTC market, and the traditional OTCs are now generally refered to as OTCBB or Pink/Gray sheets.

Interesting, I wouldn’t know that. But it seems logical since the marketplace is operated by securities dealers (NASD). Thanks both of you!
