I had a really good Thanksgiving. The whole weekend was awesome, except for the poop pounding my team took on T-Day.

^ Neither the Eagles nor the 'Boys are going anywhere in the playoffs, so what difference does it make?

^Not sure what you mean. Arizona’s in free fall, Dallas has already beaten Seattle once, the Lions aren’t that good, and whoever comes out of the NFC South is going to suck.

The Packers are the only team to really fear in the NFC.

^ Seattle is the only good team the Cowboys and beaten, and they caught them at the right time. If there’s a rematch in January, Seattle will win comfortably. Doesn’t matter though, the road to the SB will go through Green Bay and neither the 'Boys nor the Eagles have what it takes to win there.

You could say that GB caught the Eagles at the right time as well. In ARodg’s first game he didn’t even throw to an entire side of the field when Seattle shut GB down. Good teams they’ve beaten: Pats, Eagles. They still have another game against the Lions too.

The Eagles haven’t really beaten anybody good, but their two losses against pretty good teams (Zona and SF) came because the Eagles got down to the goal line and couldn’t run it in with a banged up line. They look better now that things are falling into place and subs are getting used to their roles as starters. The Giants do suck though, so I could understand how you’d be disinterested this season.

Any given Sunday.

This. Team finally woke up. Think the Hawks will make the playoffs if they can beat the Cards again.

I’m surprised a Giants fan would say such a thing considering what we witnessed recently.

Although I also believe GB and Seattle are the teams to beat in the NFC (look at my post here from a month ago), I don’t believe a team has no chance once they reach the playoffs. Just look at the SB winners in the last 8 years: Steelers in '06, Giants in '07, Giants in '11 and Ravens in '12. Did anyone expect the Giants to beat the 15-1 defending champion Packers in Lambeau field in '11? Or the Ravens going on the road and beating Manning and Brady in '12?

^ The difference is that all those teams were good at protecting the ball. I don’t see the ‘Boys much so I can’t comment too much about them, but the Eagles are horrible at protecting the ball (I believe they have the most turnovers in the league). That’s “fine” when you’re playing crappy teams in the regular season (Giants included), but that won’t work in the playoffs. Obviously anything can happen in the playoffs and every team who gets there has a chance, but I don’t see a team lead by a QB with more turnovers than TD’s in his career leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys’ playoff “success” under Romo speaks for itself.

^ Not disagreeing with you, but Sanchez did lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC championship games. Any team can get hot at the right time; however, I would tend to agree with you that the Eagles or Cowboys are likely to choke when it counts.

Also, the two Giants super bowl winning teams had dominant defensive lines. I think most people underestimate the importance of D- and O-lines.

We’ll find out who the Eagles really are this week. Although Seattle doesn’t travel well, a convincing win by the Eagles will make me re-evaluate my opinion of them.

One of these was a gift from the Colts (by not pounding them the last game of the season, and thus eliminating them from playoff contention). And the other was a fluke.

And thank God–the next two weeks favors America’s Team. A Thursday night game against the struggling Bears, followed by nine days of rest, then the Eagles.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have Seattle (who is playing tough right now), then only six days of rest.

If you asked me to explain why the Cowboys inspire intense loathing, I couldn’t do it. I don’t watch their games. I don’t follow the team at all. Yet, I hate the them. It’s not just Romo either, it’s the whole team. And it’s not because they’re good, because they aren’t.

No, there is a certain amount of inherent douchiness about the Cowboys that is hard to nail down with specific language. There is no other team in the NFL that is even half as douchey.

Anyone able to more succintly pinpoint the issue here? I know I’m not the only one and I can’t think of a single equivalent in any pro sport. The Yankees, Lakers and Pats are widely hated but that’s because they’re good almost every year (and because baseball is rigged). But somehow it’s just not the same.

[original post removed]

I think of the Cowboys, Lakers, Yankees, and Notre Dame as the most polarizing teams in sports. Don’t know why it’s them, and not some other teams. I guess you could just as easly love/hate the Raiders, Celtics, Cubs, and Hurricanes, but they don’t inspire the same amount of vitriol.

edit - add Duke to the list for college basketball

I think people hate the 'Boys for a few reasons:

  1. They used to be good and inspired a lot of bandwagon jumpers. Cowboys fans from outsite Dallas are just annoying.

  2. They have a sense of snobbery and entitlement embodied in the “America’s Team” moniker. Every single team is in America. California is the most populous state. Does that make it “America’s State?” Additionally, they are just cocky in general. They’ve won like one playoff game this millenium and they still act like they are consistent contenders.

  3. Jerry Jones

  4. They get way more media coverage than any other team, and it is annoying to see them all the time. Same could be said of the Yankees, but, as has been stated the Yankees are consistently good. It is annoying to see a team that sucks get tons of national coverage.

.

^ This is a good start. The “America’s Team” moniker is particularly irritating. Bish, you don’t represent me, keep that ish to yoself.

I started a thread about this a month ago called “Yesterday was another example of why I despise the Cowboys”.

A few NFL news and notes:

First, Demarco Murray banged the wife of his best friend.

Second, the Gronk is hanging out with Justin Bieber. I’d be concerned if I were the Patriots.
