Hello,
What do you guys think about the NYSSA membership? Is it worth the annual fee? Have you ever attended any of their prep classes? Conferences? Networking events?
Thank you.
Hello,

Thank you.
I like NYSSA, though I haven’t been in a while. When I was first transitioning to the industry, I learned a lot by attending their events. Diminishing returns after a while; however, in comparison to most local societies, NYSSA is good and active.
i heard the nyssa is no good. apparently they just increased the fee and also charge way too much for events.
also, most of the good events are during work hours (8am-6pm) so that doesnt help anyone.
i know for a fact the D.C. society is leaps and bounds better.
I stopped going to NYSSA because they raised the fees on everything too. Admittedly, the catering is a lot tastier, but still not worth the price differential from before.
I used to do some writing for them and they said they couldn’t pay me, so I negotiated that they give me credits I can spend on attending their events, and that’s generally how I paid for them. I probably would not have paid for events at the regular price. It turned out to be a reasonable solution for the time. These days I’m too busy, my time is more expensive, and nobody is all that interested in emerging markets anway, given their recent sideways performance.
did you ever ask them why they hold most of the events on weekdays during work hours?
Thanks for the responses. Has anyone taken their prep courses, for any of the CFA levels?
No Igor, I have not, but that is a good point. Aren’t most of the conferences in the industry taking place during work hours?
