Office and Administrative Support Jobs Soon to Be Automated

Our model predicts that most workers in transportation and logistics occupations, together with the bulk of office and administrative support workers, and labour in production occupations, are at risk. These findings are consistent with recent technological developments documented in the literature. More surprisingly, we find that a substantial share of employment in service occupations, where most US job growth has occurred over the past decades (Autor and Dorn, 2013), are highly susceptible to computerisation. http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/09/27/researchers_claim_many_jobs_at_risk_for_automation_here_s_what_they_missed.html Wtf

Hellelujah. We’ll have PHD’s fighting over the last few table waiting jobs available (only at high end restaurants).

Get rich now kids.

This is absolutely true.

My role is primarily selling structured FX options to corporates but within our product suite we have a number of technologically driven payment solutions that I am also accountable for pitching to larger corporates and mid size financial institutions. What these solutions do is effectively eliminate the need for a number of clerical/operations and admin staff in these insitutions as it completely rearranges and automates their workflow. It’s kind of bittersweet because the solutions themselves offer tremendous value at the cost of people’s livelyhoods. Just last week I was in a meeting with a prospect and we were actually counting how many positions they would be able to eliminate with our product. Its a signficant revenue generating opportunity for us and a huge competitive advantage for them, I am just glad I live in a fairly socialist country as these people getting laid off will have access to resources that will allow them to retrain and find other employment without being tossed completely out into the street.

Structural changes will come sooner or later, and you better be ready for it

another reason to go to plumbing school !

this would be funny if it weren’t true

Those that still think we will have hyperinflation are nuts. This deflationary period will last for at least a generation.

Yeah I definitely agree, we are seeing a structural change in our economy driven by an expansion in international trade/global workforce and advances in technology. This is definitely going to lower the cost of tradable goods as well as services.

At least automatons can’t be furloughed

Only to the extent that there are no barries to entry.

Good news for chicks is that as long as they still bring a decent rack to the office, they won’t be replaced by Surface Pros anytime soon.

Learn programming.

Well guys, it finally happened. My job’s been automated. They’ve created a computer program to meet with management teams, write investment theses and occasionally grease palms with clients. I guess I’ll have to look for work as a lifeguard or a handyman or something.

too late for that
