OFFICIAL EXAM DAY TIPS

I’ll start this thread with a couple of tips: 1. Empty bladder and take a big dump before heading into the exam room. 2. Read question first before reading vignette.

Target to reach an hour prior to the test centre. God forbid but the probability of flat tire and crazy traffic is always there

Yikes! I cannot believe that we are already at this stage.

  1. Print an extra exam ticket to keep in the car (just in case) 4. Remember to leave all your stuff in the car (phones, papers, anything not allowed)

you probably already know this, but in Ethics vignettes, each question relates to a specific paragraph. in previous years i’ve read the question and gone to the appropriate paragraph to answer the question. that way i’m not distracted by other events in the story. last year i scored above 70 in Ethics–(not that it helped me pass):frowning:

  1. Track your time like a maniac, especially after 2008.

After the morning session, get out of there and don’t talk to anyone about the exam. Level 3 morning session is much easier to remember the questions and get freaked out listening to someone give their responses which might vary significantly from yours. Keep to yourself, forget about the morning one way or the other cause what’s done is done and get pumped up to hammer the afternoon session.

Don’t stick to one question for a long time. If you are not getting some problems in first try, move ahead and revisit those questions once you have tackled all the questions once. Remember that there might be some easy questions or from topics you have better grasp of, so do go through all the questions once.

#1 Eraseable pens (absolute must) #2 If in London or NYC Bring a thermos of coffee and stick in your bag. You would be surprised how long those lines get at starbucks when there are thousands of people at Excel Centre or or Javits. The last thing you want is being under-caffienated.

A good night sleep the night before. I would try and sleep early so my mind is fresh the next day. Not get bogged down by anything during the exam (not able to answer certain questions, other distractions) Just keep going whatever happens. That will allow you to give your best shot.

can we use pencils for the AM?

MikeMilken Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > can we use pencils for the AM? yes you can. Schweser recommends not to (possibly due to worries about smudging) … but they will grade it even if you do…nevertheless you don’t want to piss a grader off…there have already been several debates on this topic on this forum…do a search… TIP: I dunno if its just the fact that the freaking summer in the UAE is probably far worse than several other places where this test is being held…but they freaking freeeeze the test centers to death! So carry a sweater/something to keep you warm … whatever it takes… filling circles was alright…but the thought of frozen fingers while trying to calculate a stupid return requirement sounds scary…

Stop all studying mid day Friday. Chill out, eat a healthy dinner. Exercise. Watch an engaging movie. Get 8 hours of sleep so your brain can file and store all that crap jumbled up in your head. Don’t make eye contact with or talk to other exam takers or proctors. Do a double shot of esspresso 10 minutes prior to exam.

Suggestions for an “engaging movie”? Before level 1 I watched “Brave Heart”, then last year for level 2 I watched “Breaking Away”.

Double shot of esspresso, wow! i wouldn’t risk it, my eyes would be twitching and I’d be doing laps around the building

Seemed to help me keep my focus 100% the whole time, though I crashed pretty hard after the exam was over.

Don’t forget to wear mask everyone- (if you are in new york city)

Yes, be sure to watch your fluid intake and to empty your bladder, especially before the morning session. You seriously might not have three minutes to waste. Last year I had too many fluids before the morning session and I spent the last hour feverishly working the test with my legs (figuratively) crossed. 2008 afternoon was much more relaxed - I could have taken one of my patented 20-minute naps - but who knows what they’ll give you.
