Are close-ended and ETF the same thing? Can they issue more ETF shares as long as more people want to invest in it. Thanks.
not necessarily the same because you can buy and sell ETFs at any time.
they are not the same. totally different vehicles. you can issue etfs from a trust, from a participant…its more confusing than it needs to be.
ETF can be open-ended (e.g. sector SPDRs) and close-ended (e.g. SPY)
even SPY is open ended(to a point) as you can redeem them…it is strongly urged you do not, but you can turn them in for the basket of stocks underlying them.

Is it? A hedge fund manager we work with day trades SPY through Shorts/Longs/Calls/Puts. He’s not making any money, but he trades that damn thing several times daily.
open and closed are just the way a fund is structured and operated , like a mutual fund could either be a open or closed ended. As far as ETF goes, it contains characteristics of both open and closed

NO OPEN END = MUTUAL FUNDS CLOSED IN ARE LIKE INDEX FUNDS ETFS ARE LIKE OPEN END ETFS OFFER TAX ADVANTAGES, I AM CONFIDENT THERE WILL BE 2-3 QUESTONS ON ETFS
