Passport scan before the exam?

Hi everyone, I am looking to register for Level-II next June. before the early regn. deadline.

Before doing that I wanted to know how if the passport checked at the exam center. Is the passport scanned in an airport style machine or is it a manual check. I ask this since my passport seems to have a printing defect and does not scan properly most of the time at the airports (the immigration people have to enter the details manually most of the time).

I need to know this before registering as I do not want to take a chance at the exam center after spending $2k and countless hours in prep time.

I called up CFAI but they were not able to confirm how the check is carried out.

Can the good folk on here help please.

Cheers.

The proctors check it manually when you check in the morning. You have been at level i, right?

Thanks for the answer.

Yes I have done L1 but in 2010. Don’t remember compulsorily needing a passport back then though.

I forget when, but sometime around then it changed from DL to Passport.

Manually check and more check when you sat down. I just wrote the exam and they checked my passport 3 times in one session. It was really annoying when they kept coming to grab my passport. Mine is just an ordinary passport.

I renewed my U.S. passport this year, and noticed it did not have the same ID number, so anyone renewing, make sure you go to the CFAI website and update the passport info. I did this in March, and the exam admission ticket was properly updated.

I renewed my U.S. passport this year, and noticed it did not have the same passport number (compared to say my CA DL which keeps the same number) , so word to the wary, upon renewing, make sure you go to the CFAI website and update the passport number to save a nasty surprise on exam day.

Thanks for the answer. Sounds rather annoying when you are up against it. Good luck for the result anyway.

Good point. Though I am not planning to get a new one since this one does the job and they were asking for money to make a new one without the defect.

Manual check. You can also check with the society that is hosting the exam
