Paul Wilmott Introduces Quantitative Finance

has anyone read this book? if so do you recommend it? thanks.

Not a bad book. It’s mostly for derivative pricing, as far as I can tell, but he does a nice introduction.

It is a little bit more than an introduction, and you need some fairly advanced math skills to really get it. As far as comprehensive intro to quant topics is concerned, it is a good book.

I think John Hull’s book is much better

its a good book to get started with, the first of its kind i laid my hands on. You could reach John Hull along with it, both are a must if you want to get into derivative pricing.

thanks guys

I find Wilmott a bit hit and miss with his intuitive explanations of things. When he hits, he hits it out of the ball park, and that part is worth catching. However, he repeatedly does things like forgetting to define his terms or not labeling the axes on his graphs (you can tell he’s a math guy, not a science guy there) so you find yourself scratching your head a lot wondering if you’ve really understood what you think you understood. That part is frustrating.
