So I currently work at a FoF (all long only & HF strategies), but may have the opportunity to move into an associate position at a PE FoF. Besides having a good network to bring in capital, presentation skills and experience with DD and financial modelling, what do you think needs to be highlighted differently in the interview? I have not worked with PE before, but I do know a lot of people in the investment world (including some people at the firm) and I have a good amount of experience with investment analysis and provide a lot of input into portfolio management. One thing off of the top of my head is that the HFoF requires more of a macro view to understand where in the book to bet your dollars, whereas the PEFoF probably requires more in depth DD and modeling, in addition to sourcing. On similarities, I am thinking that both require solid client presentation skills and a good BS detector. Any informed ideas welcome from those in the know, and if you’re out of the know that’s okay too…my BS detector needs tuning up.
