I am new to FRM and will be giving the Nov@2013 Exam . I am preparing from Schwsser Notes . I have no prior exp in Finance and would like to get more inputs for the First part of FRM Level 1 - Foundation of Risk Managment.
Yesterday , I completed the first chapter of Foundation part. Acc to FRM Study Plan given , I should go to the GARP Code of Ethics. I wanteed to know that wheter it will be advisable that after GARP Code of ethics , can I complete the Financial Distress , Info Risk and Quality Management and Risk Management Failures chapter and then go the CAPM and effiecient Portfolio Chapters. Crux is that I want to finish the Theroy Chapters before and then do the Numerical Chapters.
If you have no background in finance, I would recommend you to write the CFA instead of the FRM. FRM is very narrow in scope and I believe it is useful only when you have a good knowledge of finance. I have read 3 out of the 4 books of the part 1 of the frm books, and as a CFA level 2 candidate with a bachelors and masters degree in finance, I can tell you that although not stated, they have assumed you have previous knowledge of finance.
I do not recommend you to sit for FRM when you have no previous knowledge of finance. CFA is good for that. Maybe atleast do CFA level 1 and then consider doing FRM.
Even am planning to do FRM November 2013. Though I haven’t registered it yet. Still skeptical about it, but most probably will do. Have you registered it? Got Garp books? Can you be in touch via email? We can form a study group. I stay in Mumbai. If so text me on chaingangritesh@gmail.com
I am a postgraduate with Masters in Finance degree. I am interested in pursuing a career in Risk Management field and I am planning to opt for FRM level 1 exam in November 2013. However before registration, just wanted some general information about :
How valuable is the FRM certification in India?
Will it have significant value additional to my CV as well as in corporate world, particularly in India?
