Please give me your opinion on this masters program...

" Trent is as “non-target” as it possibly gets and the AMOD program is pretty unconventional "

“Trents alumni network is virtually non-existant.”

Yuck. I’d pass.

^ Agreed. Instant hacksaw to the sack.

@ itera … could you expand?

This is just me, but I would pass, for the reasons numi said. I don’t think the value of a masters program is so much in its program (read: what you learn), since the majority of schools will teach you mostly similar things, but rather, in its alumni network. If it were me I wouldn’t, but doubt I will go to graduate school at a non-target. Unless of course, my employer wants me to get the MBA/MFin, and doesn’t care where from.

I argue this issue with my brother a lot - that a masters is pointless unless I go to a target school… he argues that companies will recruit out of the top-100 schools. But I’m not convinced. It may be true, but I don’t think it’s worth it, especially not when I’d likely have to pay most of the tuition due to me fucking around so much in undergrad, and as such, not having even at least a 3.5.

It appears that you’d be on a full ride, so that’s definitely a bonus! It sounds like you already have your mind made up though, so if you go that way, good luck, and crush it!

If Peterborough were closer to Toronto I might say go ahead (even in Oshawa or somewhere like that). Peterborough has a super high unemployment rate and zero finance jobs, so you won’t be able to network even outside of the schools alumni. If it were located closer to Toronto, you would be able to head downtown and attend a bunch of CFA and industry networking events in your free time. What really concerns me though is Trent’s poor undergrad program. Their B Comm only lets you specialize in HR or Indigineous Management (whatever that means). If they can’t even throw together an undergrad finance class, what makes them think they can pull off a half decent masters program?
