Practice questions

I’ve seen that everyone says practice practice practice! Practice is the key!

i am a little confused. How does it work? i am supposed to read the material and then to be able to solve everything perfectly?or i have just to solve them having the material and formulas in front of me? when should i be able to solve more than 70% correctly without checking anything (previous examples, formulas, concepts…)?

Well do CFAI EOC Questions right after finishing any reading. Try to solve from your memory rather than taking help from formulas or previous examples. You are not required get a perfect score in each reading. Just give each question your best shot and then after finishing the test note down the ones you have gotten incorrect and figure out why you have gotten them wrong! Is it because your concept is weak or because you haven’t understood the question properly? Then go back to the reading and review it. Do this for every reading.

Once you have finished all the the CFAI EOCs of all the readings then you can go for the practice questions of other supplementary providers.

You will also encounter situations, where you actually do know you should have done something but you DO NOT. This happens with Equity Valuations using DCF (H-Models etc), you know the process you know the stuff. But you would still make mistake - thats why PRACTISE is so important!

Studies each day is better to be completmented with solving questions on the topic you learned (to derive the maximum benefit of what you learnt). When you finish a reading, try solving the EOCs/blue boxes etc. You would be in a good shape for the exam if you do this!

I’ll finish a reading and then do 5 questions or so (even if I have to guess on some) and then review the answers, then I’ll do another 5 questions and review answers until there are no more questions left. Staggering the questions helps me retain the information better than doing 30 practice problems and then going through the answers.

My advice is do the EOC after finishing the reading, If you have a schwser qbank, do a couple of questions a day everyday. After I finished all my readings i realized that i could not remember anything, so for L2 what I will do different is that I will cut my reading time by a little and do around 40 practice questions every day.

If you do EOC right after finishing the reading, you should be able to do fine in most readings. There will be those readings where you will score poorly…that’s ok…keep in mind you will have to review key problems and formulas once again while doing practice tests covering all 6 books. That way you will be able to cement all those formulas and tricky concepts you missed during your first pass.

Just do everything as they come up. Concept checkers, challenge problems, and self tests come after most/all LOS’s in the Schweser (which I do first), then the EOC’s after each LOS out of CFAI. On top of that, don’t just read the blue box examples, actually work them out yourself as you come accross them. They’re in CFAI and Schweser both I believe, but I’ve only been using CFAI for EOC’s. And then of course Qbank, just do a 60q quiz every so often on everything you’ve covered so far.

i have 2 strategies in mind don’t know which one to adopt:

  1. after each ss revision and 10 problems/reading

after each topic 50 problems/ ss and

after each volume 100 problems

or

  1. every two weeks x problems

what do you say?

Why dont you try this, after each study section try to do excersices from 3 study sessions before. That was something that frustrated me that after every SS i would be able to do EOC of the SS i just read and was able to avergae 80%. But after a couple of weeks I would do the same and get under 50% because i kept forgetting. I really learned when doing the practice problems and then going to the readings to review what i had done wrong.

+1 to this!

As I said before, the amount of time you spend on revising/re-reading a topic is what helps you cross the line. So keep solving questions of sessions you completed long before as well. No way you can remember everything as there are 60+ readings!!!

Sequential studying never works!

I recently registered for CFA level 1, and still learing the ropes of the preparations techniques. I have twoo questions :

1: What are EOC questions? do you mean End of chapter questions? I am still waiting for my printed CFA notes to be delivered, and in the mean time the CFA has provided me online SS1 , ethcis. I finished Reading 1 so far but did not see any EOC questions .

2: I was looking for schweser notes on amazon, that everone has beeen referring to. Please look at the link and tell me if these are the notes I should be referring to.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Do you think the below pasted 2 links are offering the same data. …I just want to be sure before taking any decision.
