Professional Jobs for Felons

After 10 years he will be fine it essentially vanishes. My bro had a felony in college and is now a college professor (no lie)

^You’re bros with Bill Ayers? And I thought BChad was a comrade…

He should run for Congress, no shortage of criminality there.

He can work with the cops to catch drug dealers. The Frank Abagnale of the drug industry.

Not quite, his was drug related too. People change drastically from teens and early 20s to the men they become later in life - i suspect this is true as you continue to evolve as a person. What i’m trying to say is most people understand mistakes are made, esp at a young age, but if you work hard and redefine your image, most people will accept that and embrace it. I know academia is one example to cfavmba, your boy should have a good chance else where so long as no repeats occur.

This reminds me of Red’s speech to the parole board in Shawshank…

I don’t have any great job ideas, but wanted to say that this is a great thing you are doing. Thanks for helping this guy navigate the system.

teaching at a community college has to be instant hacksaw…

unless you are there bec of some hidden motive. and then was successful in that motive

This begs the question, what is the opposite of hacksaw? I don’t believe this has ever been discussed on AF before…

^BSD

The question should be “what jobs don’t hire felons” as with that point of view you are casting a very wide net. If the felony was within the last 10 years, security licenses are out. Obviously, various governmental roles are out. Most of the private sector is in, but you will need to disclose. Therefore, the single most important thing is to have a good story about what happened, why it was a mistake, how the applicant has changed (or, in some cases, the laws) and why it will never happen again.

Fleshlight

It’s gotta be some silver chalice for your sack to not only be protected but shown off to the world how much of a bsd you are. an instant focal point when entering any room. also allows for maximum gravity protection and firm support thereby enabling one to spawn offspring for generations

sensing there’s a back story here.

A cod piece?

^ yes exactly, but showier

This is the only post that holds any real weight here…He will just have to do something else until the 10 years are up or find a “buddy” to hire him. I had an arrest on my record, got hired at JP Morgan/Chase and then had the job yanked when they did fingerprinting, even after I disclosed the arrest during interviews…I guess someone in HR took notice. It was 5 years from the offense. Had it questioned at another job but since it was exactly 10 years after the fact it became a non issue.

What is his GPA, is he involved in any academic clubs/programs? Does he have good people skills (executive presence, professional etc)?

If his GPA is trash, barely involved in school and is a total scrub around the edges then he has the full package that will yield a doomed career path regardless if he’s a felon or not.

I have a buddy who I’m pretty sure has a drug related felony and works for the government in financial regulation. I was surprised but I guess it didn’t matter. He was told not to discuss it with coworkers

Not to get into specifics but it is not the death knell (non finance related arrest or felony conviction) everyone thinks it is. Now I am not saying it is ok to go out there and buy a few eight balls and stroll into work on a bender but firms can be very understanding of past infractions. Maybe other regions of the country may look upon offenses differently but in NY what I have experienced and what I have heard from others is that you need not throw away your finance dreams quite yet. As with any finance job you have to bring something to the table other than just a passion to work in the industry.
