Professional References

Just looking for some insight on this process. What does the email look like for the person approving my experience? I want to provide some sort of heads up to the people i’m requesting a reference from but really not sure what the CFAI email asks, says etc.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

Good question. I would like to know this too.

My references told me filling out the reference form wasn’t that much work. It was quick and simple and only required a few sentences. I don’t know what the email or form looks like, however.

I have some colleagues in part-time MBA programs that require their co-workers to fill out surveys that can take between 20-30 minutes…a pain in the neck. One of my references finished it within 10 minutes of receiving the email from CFAI, so I think it’s pretty simple for them to fill out and complete. Maybe they were just being nice, but I don’t get the impression it’s very taxing on them. Congrats on passing L3

thanks Tommy, sounds like i can just submit the request with little to no pain for them to fill out the form.

I’ve had the same experience, my references took a matter of a few minutes to fill out the required details so I would second the assumption that it’s not all that taxing to complete. Haven’t actually seen the email myself though…

You’ll find out if/when someone uses *YOU* as a professional/CFAI reference…

They ask about your work:

  • Is your desk messy or tidy?
  • Do you keep Tootsie Rolls in your desk drawer?
  • When you staple pages together, is the staple horizontal, vertical, or diagonal?

your character:

  • When nobody is looking, do you still eat your broccoli?
  • Do you accept OTB tips from total strangers?
  • Have you ever deliberately knocked over a real estate sign and pretended that you didn’t notice?
  • Do you root for Notre Dame?

and your personality:

  • Are you right-handed or left-handed?
  • Do you own rabbits?
  • Can you pronounce lagniappe correctly?

You know, the usual.

Tidy, no (prefer Twix), diagonal

Sometimes, nope, not yet (but it’s a good idea), not at all

Right-handed (seems like I’m cheating on myself when I go left), nah, don’t think so

I was young! I didn’t know any better!

I can send a reference request to you then you will know the format wink
