Project Finance career path and CFA! ADVICE PLEASE

Hey guys, hope u are well!

A quick breif about myself, I am from Egypt, CMA holder ( Certified Management Accountant ) has 3 yrs experience in accounting and internal reporting. I made a career shift to Corporate Credit and joined second largest bank in Egypt and I took the credit course there for 8-full months with an obligiation to stay there for next 5 yrs or otherwise pay a penalty fee. Then after the credit course is over, I was selected among 3 othersout of 33 credit traines ( 20 went through corporate credit, and 10 was divided to Corporate risk and Investment ) to join sub-division called " Project Finance and Syndication " I do not have any clues about project finance career path, I hear it’s similiar to Private Equity and may be with good working experience and CFA I would have opportunity for a decent PE job in Egypt or in Gulf area. Apprecaite your advice whether this is true or not and what is the career path for Project Finance and Syndication employees ! HELP ME TO PUT A PLAN I AM HEADING TO THE UNKNOWN AND I HATE NOT HAVING A LOGICAL PLAN! THANK YOU!

Hey Mohab.

I did work in project finance for a bank in my twenties.

Total different geography (central europe) and total different age (1990s). Maybe only due to these 2 factors but practically nothing I have learned for CFA studies has had overlap with my project finance work. The small exceptions being only annuity calculations and the general credit analysis stuff (in FRA and hidden here and there in all subjects).

Still I started for CFA studies too having not seen any really banking (C&IB) designations.

syndications? Oh I have a nostalgy for those ancient times when this thing really worked… Banks were actually lending, and taking risk… (I’m speaking just about Europe).

but seeing you are such a hard worker and most probably smart (selected among 3 and all) you can only do well here.
