Which one should I buy? Leaning more towards PS3 because of the Blu-Ray feature. Not a hard core gamer - so Wii fits well too. Please suggest.
You can get a Blu Ray player and a Wii for the price of a PS3, so that might help you narrow your decision. Anyway, the main difference between these two consoles is which games they have. If you want to play SSBM or Mario, get a Wii. If you want to play MGS4 or Resistance, get a PS3. I would recommend an XBox 360 over the PS3 though. It has slightly better game selection and better online resources. Edit: Did not initially mention the hardware differences, since this is just one component of your overall satisfaction. The PS3 is obviously much more powerful than the Wii and the games will look much better, especially if you have a good TV.
Xbox360 rules both. Nothing rivals the games and xbox live. You’ll get bored of Wii really fast. It’s fun for the occasional party, but that’s it. PS3? if you want to pay $20 a movie for blu-ray. Game selection is poor at best compared to Xbox.
Agreed on the Wii/Xbox comments - I have 360 and the live is awesome (even though it’s like $10 a month I think - I pay over a year and it’s cheaper). Bought a wii and got tired of it (wife wanted it). PS3 looks tight - if wii/ps3 I’d go ps3. If wii/xbox/ps3 I’d go xbox unless there are some games on PS3 only you can’t live without.
iteracom Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yeah, the thing about Wii games is that they’re better with more people around. Not the motion control games - those tend to be gimmicky. Smash Brothers, in my opinion, is more fun than any XBox or PS3 game, provided that you have four people to play. PS3 vs. XBox 360 game selection is defined by a few games. The XBox has Mass Effect, Halo, and a couple of others. PS3 has MGS4, God of War, Uncharted, and a bunch of Japanese-made stuff. It’s hard to really say which is “better”, given that people consider many of these games to be unsubstitutable. Casual gamers would probably prefer the XBox 360 selection though. XBox Live is better than PS3 online - especially wrt Arcade games. However, you need a paid subscription to use some of the services, like Netflix. Also, I don’t know if you care about PS Move or Kinect. These might or might not be a big deal in the future.
well xbox LIVE is about $35 per year, less than 1 starbucks a month. You can find it on sale for $30 per year frequently, I don’t know anyone who pays full price. Well worth it in my opinion. And xbox live will soon include free ESPN games. It has netflix connection (if you have a netflix account)
For gaming? PC ofcourse
What! The PS3 is the only way to go. Microsoft bends you over and for each and every thing. Want wireless internet? pay up. Want a headset? pay up. Want wireless controllers? pay up. Want battery contollers. nobody wants those, thats a fortune. Want a HD DVD player? i think those are at the pawn shop? Do you really want to pay to have online gaming? That is 90% of the fun. You already have to pay for internet unless you are stealing from neighbors. But then you had to pay for the wireless set up from microsoft. PS3 has huge memory if your into that thing. Blu-ray is ridiculous if you have the right TV. The controllers have long lifespans and recharge and are wireless. You can go on the internet on your tv, its sweet. The Games are in HD, when things blow up they actually look like it. The point is PS3 comes with everything and xbox jerks you around. Games are about the same price. Here ya go. http://www.walmart.com/ip/PlayStation-3-120GB-Console/12323497 iteracom- Do you really buy movies? I thought everybody had netflix or redbox now days?
Its going to be me and wifey only playing the games, I can’t imagine a group playing with us, also I have an awesomly sized Sony TV and even the pirated stuff looks so cool on it! Let me still know if you think this ordering is correct - XBox > PS3 > Wii (summarized from above)?

Def. Xbox>PS3>Wii. Xbox games are better IMO. However, as others have stated if you really want to play resistance, MSG4 etc… then PS3. I wouldn’t buy the PS3 just b/c it has a blu-ray player. However, since its for you and the wifey you may want to go for the Wii as she will probably enjoy the more interactive & user friendliness of the Wii. If she is a hardcore gamer go Xbox and then all I gotta say is good catch there brosef!
Just a side note: in NYC every douche bag banker/sales person/etc… I know who isn’t or hasn’t been a gamer buys the PS3 because its “sleek”, " the graphics are amazing", and “its got a blu-ray player.” Its pretty easy to predict some of the games they bought: Gran Turismo, FIFA 09/10, guitar hero, Madden, NBA/NCAA and some game with a title or cover that looked “cool” (mafia, tom clancy, call of duty). Not that these games are all that bad (except for guitar hero and its ilk), its just so predictable. Most of the games are left unplayed and are usually just show pieces for that time you have to entertain some other douche bags. Douche bag 1: “Wow you got a PS3?” Douche bag2:“Ya pretty cool right? Check out these graphics… hold on… its says I need to create a profile? Ah screw it just watch the intro… pretty awesome right?” Douche bag 1: “Sick bro! I gotta get one… and wait its a blue-ray player??? Not that I own any blu-ray DVDs or have a TV that could actually use this but I gotta have it so I can be more of a fucking douche bag!” Also side side note on guitar hero and the ilk: Can’t you just go out and play a real guitar or something? I just don’t get the fascination. So lame…
^ hahahah… so funny CFABLACKBELT! I know what you mean… But you presicely nailed the motto behind me getting the PS3 - “its got a blu-ray player.” ;-p Really, I am so lame in this gaming world that out of all the games listed above - the only game I have played before is Mario Bros on my Nintendo @ age 5 with super-lame graphics.
The 360 really is outdated and substandard compared to the ps3. Might as well be living in 2005. 100% the only reason people like the 360 is for halo. so unless you like halo there is no reason to get it. Most of the games come out for both. BTW graphics for halo suck ass. He already stated he has a bad ass TV- so the blu-ray is just a bonus. CFABLACKBELT— You buy movies also? WHO are you people actually throwing away 20 bucks for this Hollywood crap?

That game was and still is awesome. I have a Wii for my kids and I bought the old school Mario Bros for it.
Ski2Much Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The 360 really is outdated and substandard > compared to the ps3. Not really correct. The PS3 does have a faster CPU (which is why research labs use them as processing farms). However, the XBox has a much better GPU, which is more important for games.
Since it’s with your girl too, I’d probably go PS3 with the play-motion or whatever (chicks like that stuff). Otherwise, I’d still go xbox.

I agree Halo graphics are nothing spectacular. Just got Halo Reach and they are the same graphics as Halo 3. But the gameplay is sick and the graphics are more than acceptable. Graphics aren’t always a major determinant in whether a game is good or not. Take counterstrike for example: graphics were way outdated, but that game was fucking awesome (especially in some of the early beta stages). As LaGrande said, playing Mario is still fun. Graphics don’t matter much there.

I was referencing my previous post about how the controllers require an upgrade to be wireless plus either lots of batteries or you get their rechargeable packs. How they make you buy every little add on, like their headsets. PS3 uses any Bluetooth so if you have one for your phone your set! 360 made the daring move to come out first and then sony just packed their system full of extras when they released a year later. You buy the ps3 and its ready to go out of the box. the 360 bring a shopping cart and know what you want and need. REALLY YOU guys are ok paying for the online access for the 360, every year while you own the system? Am i correct that you even have to buy their special HDMI cord for hd (for the 360)? For the record my college house for the last 3 years has had all 3 systems. and i spent endless hours playing them. We like to game. I dont mean to hate on the 360 because halo is fun sometimes and they have some good racing games, but if your going to pick just one system i thought it should be the ps3. We are all Number people right. ill work on a price comparison given what…6, 8 years of ownership? the all in package price makes the ps3 a clear winner in my book.
360 > Wii > PS3 360 is by far the best choice, even if M$ can’t make a machine that lasts for more than a year (I’m on my fifth or sixth 360, can’t remember). Better selection of games and the online community is far ahead of anything else out there. I put Wii ahead of PS3 only because if you were to get a second system I’d go with Wii since it offers a much different experience. And, Ski2Much is correct. M$ does screw you out of incremental cash for every little add on. But we’re all adults here, and in finance no less. Buy one less pair of bespoke socks this week and you’re golden. Seriously, cost aside, you’ll regret going with anything other than the 360.
Can’t wait till for Nov 4 for Kinect. BTW I recently got the three rings of death on my unit…luckily my unit is still under warranty so I am shipping it back to get the HD fixed.
