Quality of Schweser material for CAIA preparation

Sorry if this has been answered previously. I am just wondering how is the Schweser prep. material for both levels of the CAIA exam? I have been fairly happy with Kaplan’s notes and vidoes for CFA and now planning on going through CAIA.

Thanks

I’ll let you know April 22nd lol

I have used both (premium packages - all the bells and whistles): L1 I used Schweser; L2 I used Uppermark. Schweser does a better job for Videos/online class (the Uppermark videos were subpar; for the most part the instructor read off the slides); for everything else I would use Uppermark. For instance, there were a few questions in L1 (when I used Schweser) where I had no clue of what they were talking about. For L2, I did not have this problem with Uppermark.

I also caveat that I used Schweser before the curriculum overhall that occurred last year - so it may have improved since then. Whatever you decide, make sure you inquire about how they prepare their materials and what value-add comes from the online class.

Also, I did not refer to the official study materials, but the official study guide and workbook (and the official mock exam) are helpful.

I used the following: Level 1 (passed): CAIA books + Uppermark testbank

Level 2 (pending): Schweser notes + Uppermark testbank + Uppermark Final Review

I think Schweser is probably enough, but adding the Uppermark Testbank gives you extra cover.

Level 1 (passed): Schweser Essential (just the notes and qbank)

Level 2(pending): Same, Schweser Essential, notes and qbank

Did not get the official CAIA textbook for either. For Level 1, i did all the schweser reading (wasnt a lot), the 3 mocks, the CAIA mock, and about 70% of the qbank, doing at least 30% in the last 4 days.

Level 2 did all the schweser reading, the 3 mocks, the CAIA mock, 100% of the qbank as well as repeated ones I got wrong the first time around, and 5 of the 20 online essays. Like meazza, ill let you know April 22nd if that was effective.

I used for both level I (passed) and level II (pending) Schweser. I was pleased.

I am surprised, I read several times you were preparig with a CAIA mock exam for level II. I was looking for that, but never saw a CAIA mock exam on the website and received no mail/alert for a mock exam. Only for level I.

Where did you get the mock exam for level II? Even though it’s over now, I am just curious.

i didn’t receive a notification on a mock exam either. I used the workbook available on the caia.org.

I think Ramos4rm is referring to the CAIA Level 2 Sample Exam - it is accessible through the CAIA curriculum page if you are logged in. The direct link is http://caia.org/caia-program/level-ii-sample-exam

Logged in I cannot find the mock exam. Only if I use your link which we did not have before.

Was it possibly only available to certain user profiles or countries? Strange.

Yes, I was referring to the level 2 sample exam. It’s basically half of an actual exam (like the level 1 sample was). It was 50 MC and 2 essays. It was under study materials, where you find the study guide and workbook. That would be weird if it was different for different countries

It seems strange that they wouldn’t make it available to everyone. It is a shame you couldn’t access it, as the questions were pretty similar to the real exam. Here is what it looks like when Im logged in on the “Curriculum” page:

I now remember seeing it and yet I never took the exam.

Damn.

does anybody have a copy of it that they could send me?

It’s still available on the website if you log in.

Thanks guys for your feedbacks :). I think I will be going through Schweser afterall atleast for Level 1.

I looked at both Schweser and Uppermark for L2. The books from Uppermark are substantially thinner - 2 Schweser volumes about 550-600 pages each vs four UM books 200 pages each on average.

In the end we have roughly 1100-1200 pages in Schweser vs 800 in Uppermark. I see some members commenting that Uppermark covers more material, why such big difference in volume?
