Question Banks

I’m retaking level 1 this Jun (failed in DEC band 9) and I believe because I didn’t give it enough time. I used schweser material the first time but I only solved around 800 questions and 3 mocks. I’m thinking about buying the qbank but yet I thought I should try something new and the problem with ELAN is that they offer it in a pdf instead of a program and choosing the topic that I want. Is there any other Question bank that someone here tried and recommends?

I too failed B9, and found Schweser Q bank to be totally unreflective of the actual exam. The problem I find with Schwes Q bank is that it’s too numbers orientated, lots of plug and chugs.

I bought the Elan material as I’ve heard fantastic reviews from almost everyone, with all the mocks and Practice question. It’s annoying that they are PDF, but at the end of the day questions are questions.

I read a few people talking about FinQuiz having a good Qbank. I wrote a similar post to you a couple weeks ago but didnt get many responses.

I did more than 3000 questions in Schweser Q-bank. Found them too number-based sometimes but that’s a good source to check how well you understand concepts. I like its ethics questions. Once you understand concepts well, no matter how the test twists you, you stil can kill it. The last December exam focused more on “big pictures”, so I assum3 that you might have overlooked basic concepts ??? If yes, don’t skip EOC questions :).

Good luck !

Hi Lake House,

Does it make sense redoing EOCs at the very end? My problem is that I have been doing CFAI EOCs during the study period (i.e. right after finishing 1 section I do Schweser and CFAI EOCS), so for the end when I will only practice I will just have Q-Bank and mocks.

Problem is, that if I redo a question which I previously missed, I usually remember the exact question (or I just remember that “yes this is what I never know”) so re-doing the same set of question does not really work for me.

I think you don’t need to re-do the whole EOCs but you should review blue boxes and EOC questions which you got wrong. Did you mark your choices in the books when working on EOCs? I didn’t . I wrote down my choices in an answer sheet so that when coming back I would see if I still made the same mistake!

For questions that you got right , especially those you were guessing (either in EOCs or Qbank), please check answers also to make sure your reasonings are right.

At the very end of my studying (about 1 week b4 the exam). I was advised that there’s no need to practice new questions much more, just be sure we don’t make the same mistakes again, then we would be fine :).

Btw, since you and other candidates who sit for the exam in June 2014 will have a new CFAI mock, plan enough time for them also. I had bought 6 Schweser mocks but ended up finishing only 3 of them plus 2013 and 2012 CFAI mocks. For the rest, I did only sections I was weak at… Reviewing and debriefing mocks take time…

I attempted about 4000 questions (Qbank and Mock), sailed through the exams with almost one hr spare in first half and 45 mins in the PM half. I passed with 70% in 7 subject and rest 3 between 50-70%. So in short practice and practice of questions does work.
