Ok, so clearly I’m new-ish to the water cooler. I have to ask, has it always been this much of a dumpster fire? I mean I enjoy a good debate as much as anybody but this place is just next level.
Racism, extreme nationalism, bigotry and hatred are basically daily topics. And for the most part, these are unprovoked posts. It’s uncanny. Been doing my best to turn on the fire hose but there are some pro-level trolls and full-on scumbags hanging out here.
Or is this just what it is? It’s a shame because in between there are some decent and hilarious topics discussed. What’s this about the water cooler going exclusive? Is there a way to filter out the garbage?
Examples? I mean I agree with you, but what are the recent interactions that triggered this?
Am I naming names here? It’s pretty clear who my recent venom has been aimed towards, but going back even a month ago there was a thread that just went completely off the rails… I think it was one of the covid investment discussions (typing on my phone and can’t go back to look).
A few days ago Sweep outright deleted two threads, one of which essentially flat out said “I have no sympathy for Chinese racism”… among other nonsense.
I could go on. From my casual assessment it seems some people on here are a little too cavalier to throw around bigotry. Likely because they know they’re faceless and nameless. Personally I have no time for it and I don’t mind calling it out when I see it.
I felt like it was worse back then. Mods are definitely regulating on the racism. But it’s light regulation. Not like on Reddit. Anything like that post would get downvoted to oblivion.
For sure there’s a lot more rope here. But that’s how it should be for a small group of supposedly well educated adults. Mods shouldn’t have to be policing this place day and night.
In my opinion it’s a combination of lack of class and immaturity. I don’t know if the people getting on with the BS actually believe it, or they think it’s funny or what. Nothing wrong with a little banter but for Christ sake have a little decency.

I think they genuinely believe it. There is occasional trolling. But you can tell who are the serious ones. Different strokes for different folks I always say!
Very true. The worst part is, this forum has like 20 active users. We literally are the smallest pond of the smallest ponds among internet forums. I think that’s why a lot of the comments here are off the rails - because there’s a lot of rapport.
And I apologize for my sarcasm. It’s the only way I know how to cope with my income level.

I think I missed the specific thread I’ve been busy lately… Agree we could step up enforcement there have been failed pushes at that but elevating the discussion would be nice
