So I’ve applied for a position at company X and interviewed with them in July 2008. Unfortunately I did not get an offer. I think that they took someone much more experienced because 1) the job actually stated they wanted someone with ~3 years of exp 2) I was only a year out of undergrad and not much credible experience on my resume Now they are recruiting for the exact same position and I’m contemplating on the best way to approach this. There is a good chance that the same hiring manager will review my application, and there is a good chance that she will remember me from last year… What will be even more awkward is if I’ll be interviewing with the same two people as last time (if I get a call for the interview). What changed since the last interview… I’ve got over 6 months of experience in my current job. I’ve passed level 2 CFA. I’m a little bit older, and a little bit wiser. Am I over thinking this? Anyone got comments/suggestions?
The worst that could happen is you not getting the job. Go for it, but stop kidding yourself that six months makes you older or wiser - you only have a little over one year of experience, and to use your words “it may still not be credible”.

I think that’s a bit unfair as alot can happen in 6months…not to mention it’s 50% more experience than he had. I know, it’s still only 6months, but it’s more than he had before. It’d be particularly compelling if he had some specific experience or project than he can point to that could highlight a change/improvement. Kblade - You’ve got nothing to lose in going through the process again. Evidently they didn’t find what they were looking for or had unrealistic expectations. Good luck.
If this is a company that you think highly of then i wouldnt apply again just yet. If this is a cmpany that you would like to be working for 5 years from now then wait until you have the experience and then apply for this or another position.

If this is a position that will be available within the next two years, applying right now is probably a bad thing. Trying to jump ship after just six months of experience doesn’t look good, no matter how great the learning experience has been.

I wouldn’t say that I think highly of this company and I don’t want to work there for 5 years, however I can see myself working there for 1-2 years and I think it is a good enough company to use as a stepping stone for something else/better in the future. Maybe I’m over thinking this too much but I definitely think this is a better position than the one I’m currently in.

Big bumpin. Literally almost the exact same situation…
anyone done this before? Have any luck? Saw a company post an opening for a position I interviewed for about a year ago. Since then I’ve passed L2 and have couple new accomplishments on the resume. I don’t see any reason why not, looks like one of the guys I interviewed with previously has moved on (per a quick LinkedIn creep) and I assume it’s to replace him this time.
should I email the other guys directly saying I saw the posting or go through the company website and apply like I did previously? Or don’t do it all? I must concede I have pretty serious doubts as I only got as far as an initial interview, and the guy I thought like me the most is the one that left and are likely replacing.
You have nothing to lose at this point. Mention you interviewed with them and reiterate you’re interested in the position. Don’t forget to add why your candidacy is better rounded this time around.
yes go for it
