I’m struggeling to find information about what the fees are to re-take a CFA exam? Do they differ from L1,L2,L3? Also, how ofte is there re-sit oppourtunities? For L1 it seams like you can re-sit in both June & December. How about L2 & L3 (who only have their main examn in June), do they offer the chance to re-take in December aswell?
There is a one-time enrollment fee the first time you take Level 1. Other than that once-per-lifetime fee, fees are the same for each level.
Levels 2 and 3 are only given once per year. If you fail in 2013, then you have to wait until June 2014 to take the test again. This is one reason why the CFA exam is so much harder than other exams.
Thanks for your clarification. Regarding fees, I get the impression (from some other discussions in this forum) that if you would fail Level 1 in June 2013 you can re-take it in December 2013 without paying ay extra cost - due to the curriculum being the same througout the year. Is this correct or would you have to pay the fee (apart from the 1 time enrollment fee) all over again?
The one-time enrollment fee is a one-time fee. You only pay that one time–hence the name “one-time fee”.
You will still have to pay for registration, but I don’t know if you’ll have to pay for the books again. That’s a good question to ask CFAI. You can find their website by googling “CFA Institute”.
As I clearly wrote, I understand the concept of a one-time fee. No need to elabortate on that. And, of course, I’ve tried to track my q’s down on the CFA webiste as a starters but since they don’t provide the information I figured AF might be the place to go to, if someone had the experience of the area of my q. But thx for the sarcastic googling reference. I have some words you can google…
If you failed L1 in June but are registering for December of the same year, you might be able to get out of having to purchase the study materials a second time (not sure how much that will save you: it’s probably small yet non-trivial); I doubt that you’re going to get out of paying of any other charges. Of course, a one time fee is a one time fee, so you won’t have to repay that.
L2 and L3 are given once per year, so normally there is no discount for people who didn’t pass the last time around (however, with study providers, it’s a different story, some do give discounts for repeat takers if you studied with them last time).
Here’s a website for you. I’m sure somebody here can answer your questions with more assurance than anybody on AF. There are e-mail addresses to e-mail and phone numbers to call.
