Real Estate Private Equity Firm Associate Interview Help

So I have an upcoming inteview with a large real estate private equity firm which invests across the whole capital structure, the role involves building excel models and using Argus. So I have no experience with Argus but everything else fits the bill.

Can you guys suggest the areas I should know about for the interview? Thanks!

Most software can be learned quickly. I’ve never heard of Argus, so I’d assume it’s not a standard platform.

Know NOI, Comps, Income vs. Speculative strategies, 1031, etc.

All I know about RE came from CAIA for what it’s worth.

Thanks!

know those IRRs, cap rates, and projecting income statement and balance sheet. It is a different animal from other types of companies.

Argus is standard software for most real estate firms.

Argus is absolutely the industry standard for commercial. Sometimes not knowing it is a deal breaker, and learning it is tough because courses are expensive and they generally travel from city to city. Stallion’s advice is good, but I’ll add that you should understand the partnership structure and capital stack. Know how to model where the money comes from and when towards the beginning of a deal, and then how it gets distributed.

I find the REFM.com courses to be very good.

You might brush up on the typical lease structure of different asset classes as well.

THanks!
