Hi everyone, I’m a level 2 candidate doing trading (buy side) right now and am trying to get into equity Research (buy or sell side). My boss is willing to let me use him as a reference, which I think is probably my biggest asset right now since he’s the head of trding of a 100Bil + comp. How should I mention the fact that he will vouch for me in my cover letter/resume?
Why would you want to shift from trading to research? Usually, it’s the opposite.
won’t work on a cv or cl. maybe during an interview.

If I don’t like it, I figure I can always go back. and I don’t think I’d be able to get a research interview without leveraging that reference
Plenty of people include references with their cover letters. Here’s another idea. Get him to put his reference on your linked in profile. Then include your complete linked in profile with his review in pdf form with your packet.
How about something like this: "In my current position at XY Financial, I work directly with the head of trading, Mr. Z. My expertise is in ____ My significant contributions included ____. There I am best known for _____. Etc. If the reader knows Mr. Z or his reputation, that may pique interest to get you an interview, where you can offer him as a reference and seal the deal.
