Can I register for the exam without a passport? I know that I need a passport to sit for the exam but do I need one just to register?
call CFAI
Yes. A passport is required for registration.
They are closed today because of snow! I am calling first thing tomorrow. This is what I get for waiting to register.
Does anyone know if it would be okay if I used someone else’s passport information (my parents for example) to register and then updated the passport information in CFAI’s database once I receive my passport?
Your question is whether you can commit fraud in order to register for the exam? I’m leaning towards no on that one.
If you don’t have a passport and you didn’t bother to research the requirements or register until now I don’t think you’ll have much of a chance of passing the exam. It’s a tough exam and if you are having trouble grasping such a simple task, it’s going to be a long road.
Really dude?
And exactly how would this be fraud? I only thought of it because of a similar threat I found on AF.

Regardless, I did bother to research the requirements. I knew that I needed a passport to SIT for the exam ON TEST DAY but I never knew that I needed one just to register. Further, I’m not sure how registering late has anything to do understanding financial concepts or TVM or cash flows.
I checked with CFAI today and they said I would need to wait until December to sit for the exam. Not such a huge deal. It will give me more time to grasp such hard tasks as registering for a test as you put it.
Also, since we’re giving out constructive critism, I strongly urge you to read up on fraud. Because if you think this would be an example of committing fraud then it’s going to be a long road for you as well.
Willingly using someone else’s passport to register for something doesn’t constitute fraud? Really? You might want to research passport fraud.
This is from an Australian site but I’m sure America is similar.

Anyways, good luck in December.
Yes, you certainly need a passport - don’t forget it for the Exam or you won’t be able to access the Exam! This is quite important!
