Review on Tiger Financial News Network (TFNN)

One of my extended family members swears by these people and how amazing they are at predicting market movements using technical analysis. He claims that their “proprietary” technical analysis patterns (called “Chapman Wave”) is 90% successfull. I get a little skeptical when I don’t see any track record on a site and no mention of education in the biographies. Tom O’Brien (CEO of TFNN) has been on CNBC before so guess the pigeons in “squawk box” have some faith in him. I tried to get some info on them on the net (espicially about the “Chapman Wave” or “CWave” but there isn’t much. I’m wondering if anyone here has heard of them and if so what they think? Like I said, I’m very skeptical about them and I figured who better to give them a quick glance than fellow CFA charter holders and candidates  Website: http://www.tfnn.com/ stuff on “Chapman Wave”: http://www.tfnn.com/chapman_wave.php I’m looking forward to anyone’s view on this. deep2002

Deep- I just spent five minutes on the website. Let me say right up front that I’m biased because I put zero faith in technical analysis, and that seems to be their bread-and-butter. With that said, the whole thing comes across as one very large sales pitch/cross-selling effort. I couldn’t go to one page without a link to buy something - and that includes the “about Tom O’Brien” page, where the founder lists his background. Speaking of which, that’s probably the sketchiest part to me. Go to his bio and read the whole thing with a critical eye. I don’t really understand what he’s done that qualifies him to teach anyone anything about finance. Maybe this is different from the hundreds (thousands?) of other financial “system” websites out there, but when any guru claims that its method is going to make me financially successful, I usually start looking for the exit. If these guys were truly phenomenally successful traders, they would make their living that way. As it is, I’d guess that these “trading success” courses account for the majority of their income.

thanks for the feedback supersadface! I thought exactly the same thing. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the crazy one lol. The family member does investing part time and I think websites like TFNN prey on those part time traders. I tried explaining it to him but it seems like he is determined to believe these jackals are THAT good.
