I’m just as blunt offline, famously so. Although I balance it out by also being consistent and sticking to my guns on issues which has its own benefits. Some people get put off by it, some people think its funny, value the ability to take me at face value, knowing I go right to them with issues and the reliability. I mean well for people I bother with, I just don’t mince words and don’t bother with people who annoy me offline so I don’t have to deal with low value people which helps.
not talking about you in particular but the position you are taking about supporting cyber bullies as you explicitly stated. cyber bullies are typically faceless, as are all on this thread making comments to SG’s face. can’t see how this is not cowardly or better than nerdy’s suggestion to drop it already
I mean, I was clowning around about the cyber bully thing if we’re applying this in a literal sense towards targeted behavior. But I also think its ridiculous for people putting public content out to run around to corners of the web policing what people say. Like Musk chasing down that guy on seeking alpha. Look, if someone semi normal said let it drop, I’d respectfully disagree but say hey, whatever. I’m just saying that when one person doing equally sleazy stuff tries to take a righteous soap box it’s clearly hypocritical. Similarly if I jumped on Greenie for this I’m pretty sure I would get banned on principal (kidding) but you get it and people would obviously call me out. Honestly these comments on SG aren’t even that bad, just people pointing out that the articles suck.
TL;DR: I prefer to go after people directly who can respond to me on equal terms, hence AF. I don’t get Greenie’s eternal beef, but I think it’s a little oversensitive given how bad her articles are and the criticisms are aimed at the articles which just keep appearing. I also think Nerdy is probably not the person to be leveling those criticisms at Greenie.
I’m leaving nerdy out of this, I’m not sure what he’s saying most of the time cause I can’t easily differentiate between his pop lyrics quotes and original thought, they seem similar in content and delivery.
Not sure what value greenman is adding with his eternal beef, or anyone else who continuously criticizes for 5+ pages even if her work is crap. It’s like a standup comic with one repetitive joke, maybe it’s actually funny up to 3 times? Either way, it is not a constructive criticism and doesn’t seem to be intended to be constructive, and it’s not particularly funny any more.
In theory, I don’t disagree with you. In practice, look at this place, this is AF what you wrote could literally be applied to every multi-page thread here. Five pages of tired criticisms and old jokes overplayed way past the point of anything constructive and no longer funny. There’s literally a fifty page thread dedicated to bowel movements and another one about eating live snakes. I guess what I don’t get is why start here and why this is some magical line. To me its more about somebody with thin skin writing terrible articles that can’t handle their work being criticized and trying to police the internet.
Like wading into the youtube comments and arguing with people for making fun of the video you just posted, it seems pointless and stupid. Is making fun of internet content dumb? Yes. Is going out into the nether regions of the information superhighway and arguing with every troll account dumb? Yes. That’s the social contract of putting crap out there. Public content providers telling the people to stop mocking them doesn’t obligate people to stop mocking them for being stupid. I just don’t see why people care either way. I don’t get Greenie’s obsession with it and I don’t get people’s outrage over it and I don’t get why this matters.
Eternal beef? The last time I posted anything about her was over six months ago. And like I said before, I was perfectly content to let it die. But then she upped the stupidity level, so I felt like I was morally obligated to call her out on it.
And if you don’t find it entertaining, you could always do what I do (for example, when Nerdy posts one of his life works/rap lyrics)–just ignore it.
I somehow skipped over page 2. I had no idea she actually responded. With that in mind, I think we should let this thread die thrive. She needs the constructive criticism. Even the top financial writer can improve.
As for the cyber-bullying complaints, I don’t see how this is any different than me constantly ragging on Whitney Tilson for sucking at his job. Yes, her appearance was critiqued, perhaps harshly, but A) this is the Internet, B) if she’s going on YouTube as a financial professional she should try to look the part, and C) I just realized I don’t have a third point.
Telling someone their writing sucks, or that they should clean their room and dress nicely before posting a video isn’t cyber-bullying.
