Salary - Market Risk vs Credit Risk

Which group of risk managers get paid more? Market or Credit? Anyone that’s worked in both areas? What’s been your experience?

fairly different jobs and it is dependent on the revenue of the businesses that they are supporting. market risk is primarily covering trading desks, credit is primarily covering i-banking. market risk is much more CFA-relevant imo.

I worked both, but at different career levels so I can’t say exactly how pay compares. I think they’re pretty similar pay wise. I just recently started in market risk and I think it’s much more exciting for me personally. Also, I feel like I’m surrounded by much more intelligent people. Credit risk as stated above is more closely tied to investment banking so it tends to have a flatter organizational structure with greater pay variation from one individual to the next. Market risk roles are more vertically structured and I think you can get closer to the top of the bank as a whole as these roles may lead to overall enterprise risk management. Market risk roles are more trading related and may provide opportunities to shift into port mgmt.
