Sam Harris on Rogan Podcast

Are you familiar with Tim Ferris at all? I had similar views until I actually interacted with his content more. I think he addresses everything you are trying to achieve, TBH.

I’m a fan of Sam Harris. Rogan’s podcast is hit or miss. I read the description and listen if it is a scientist or intellectual. I don’t listen to his MMA or comedian talks.

^ I see what your saying. Deleted another pompous comment I made here to replace it with this. Watched a few of his videos and he has some good advice.

I guess we should come full circle. Tim Ferris on Rogan’s podcast.

Haha rare occurrence on the Internet! While people may make him a guru, most of his time is spent finding people good at what they do and learning from them. Then he tries to adapt what he can. His podcast will have people ranging from Sam Harris to Cal fussman to a Russian guy talking about how to improve strength training. Most of his podcasts aren’t about him but the guest. While I think Tim is a cool guy, I don’t listen much to him being interviewed.

For the 4 hour body, he literally ran google ad words for several titles and chose the one that was most clicked. That experimental approach to life really appeals to me. Although sometimes he seems to regret how that title leads to perceptions that he’s some self help guru

Sam Harris is an interesting guy. Clearly really intelligent with varying degrees of knowledge in a good many subjects. His style has always been inflammatory. End of Faith was basically a hitpiece on Islam. It never really bothered me that he is so arrogant because I have always felt that when you are intelectually superior to 98% of the population, make a ton of money, and create a hearty argument that you’ve clearly put some thought into (whether or not I agree with it), then you have kind of earned that right. I have yet to listen to this but I will have to, thanks for bringing it up. I love Joe, as he’s typically funny and has a simpleton’s genius to him (in that he knows what he doesn’t know, has an open mind, and sniffs out BS pretty easily). I can imagine the two together make for a good talk.

This was a great listen.

I personally love Sam Harris’ takes on Trump and he’s immune to the tired “ya but Hillary/Obama/etc tho” rebuttals. Clearly this guy has no dem leanings nor would that party want anything to do with him. This is how it should be. Objective, non-partisan takes on the President. I’m surprised you enjoyed this GuyOnABuffalo, aren’t you a big Trump guy? Harris destroys him throughout the podcast.

Didn’t realize Dan Harris was on this as well, he’s always got a pretty measured take on things. I read his book recently and while he’s a little squeak in person, I thought his writing style was particularly enjoyable.

I still can’t get over how Sam Harris winds up down some of the paths that he does though. As a neuroscientist who has spent years meditating and studying under spiritual gurus, it’s astonishing to hear him go on long rants about fights that he gets into on Twitter. What? Joe and Dan are tooling on him for it and he’s like “no you don’t understand, this guy did this.” So bizarre. Just disconnect from that nonsense and realize you’re letting your mind cause the unnecessary suffering that you tell us meditation is a tool to eliminate. Right??
