Sam is prostituting his knowledge and getting to talk about so many different things with no background. It’s truly a shame given his respected credentials and achievements.
OP- I never understood the premise of joe rogans podcast. Could you elaborate a little ?
I just finished Waking Up a few weeks ago. I rarely disagreed with Harris but man is he a douche sometimes. Seemed like a strange juxtaposition for a guy writing about spirituality and meditation.
Well, let me rephrase that. I was surprised by how needlessly antagonistic he was. Then again what seems obvious to me may not be so obvious to folks who have grown up deep in religious faiths. The part of spiritual gurus also felt like low hanging fruit. I expected more about growing a spiritual practice and less inflammatory rhetoric towards institutions I thought were known to be exposed. This is all just likely me being selfish.
Ill listen to the podcast though. I only read that one book.
Joe tries to get interesting people and provocative thinkers to talk to him for a few hours of unscripted uninterrupted conversation. Topics are free flowing. He talks to anyone from comedians to astrophysicists and MMA fighters about just about anything and everything. Some of it is good and some of it is bad. Sam Harris is an interesting guy.
^ Rogan doesn’t try and come across as an expert. He has strong feelings about the beneficial effects of pot that are kind of dumb. He also has a strange fascination with conspiracies but he knows its bullshit and calls it out even if he entertains people like Alex Jones on his show. He has experience in the MMA world but I don’t really watch any of his interviews with MMA fighters because it is intellectually very boring.
I have always gotten a feeling that he got rich by selling how to get rich kind of books/material and then used his income to prove his methods work. But why do you think he is a charlatan ? I’ve never felt he is a very authentic person BTW.
Again I recommend you check James Altucher, very down to earth and none of the ego associated with tim. Also he was a PhD student at carnegie mellon and knows a few things about tech/finance unlike tim.
Lets see… I guess you read “4 hour work week”, “4 hour body”, or whatever “4 hour bigger dick” novel?
Tell me- are you working 4 hours and making 40k a week? Are you winning the salsa global championships, beating the worlds best chinese kickboxers and putting on 34 lbs of muscle with 4 weeks practice? Are you packing a big one or still hung like a light switch?
Instead of reading self help books from lifestyle gurus I would rather spend my time thinking, doing, and creating things that my talents are suited to and live a balanced life style that makes me happy.
I’m not familiar with Tim Ferriss’ books but I don’t listen to him or Rogan’s podcasts unless the guest is interesting. Neither of them are really worth listening to on their own, and I’d argue Rogan is a far bigger presence (50%) on his show than Ferriss who generally defers to his guest.
Seems silly to rant about wanting to think, do and create and then listen to a 3-4 hour JRE podcast a handful of times a week. Lol what. It’s the same thing.
I know a guy who did something similar. He now makes mid 6 figures on ~5-10 hours a week. He bought some exhema cream recipe, then automated it all and has it run through a website that automatically has shit ordered and packaged and shipped… he just puts in time for responding to customers.
I only listen when he has a guest i’m interested in like Neil Degrasse Tyson or Lawrence Krauss. It mostly serves as background noise while i’m trading or working spreadsheets. I also listen to CSPAN, Ted Talks, Audible books a handful of times a week. Do you think I should be training Jiu Jitsu, automating a dick pill side business, and selling ad revenues on my self produced pick up artist Vlog in order to be successful?
