How does it work? Anyone know? And is it 50%?
I called about this. It’s 50%. But its only for the 2 highest priced products, Premium Instruction and Premium Plus. When you order, you’ll just have to send them proof that you failed L3, so a pdf or screenshot of your score. For Premium Instruction, with tax, shipping, and everything it would be about $545.
That’d be worth it…too bad I did not buy them directly from them…LOL…I guess they would have record that I did not purchase the material from them on file…
Right…you need to be in their system. IMO, the curriculum did not change that much from last year to this year. I’m going to use mainly CFAI material and supplement with last year’s L3 Schweser stuff. The only thing we’d be missing out on is the Q-Bank, which I felt was sub-par for L3 anyway. And I guess the practice exams…but I wonder if they’ll even change those from last year to this year, and Book 2 Exams is garbage anyway… If you really wanted the Q-Bank, I guess you could just purchase separately (about $300).
So if you purchased the essential prep (notes + qbank) then you don’t qualify?
Slash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So it you purchased the essential prep (notes + > qbank) then you don’t qualify? You are correct, sir
F#ck. More salt in my wounds. Even if I decide to upgrade I don’t qualify. Screw this.
Honestly don’t think you guys should buy 2010 Schweser. Shouldn’t be much different. Why not just read the new readings from Curriculum and use your saved $ from Schweser to buy Stalla / CFAI practice exams? Just my 2 cents.
Because I am paranoid. Same reason why I never bought used text books that were one edition behind in university. I rely heavily on the notes. The official curriculum is just to much
IMO the premium solution is not all that effective for level 3… (used it for lvl 2 and crushed the exam, used it for 3 and pulled and tampa bay rays and got no-hit, I was a band #2, the only people I beat were Jon Bon Jovi and Axel Rose, they were band #1) I did the classes online but remember thinking that the subject matter was probably more manageable by doing questions and practice exams rather than wasting time watching the videos… but what did I do? Kept watching… anyway, I also agree with most on this site that the q-bank questions for lvl 3 left a lot to be desired, its better suited for the first 2 levels. My plan for next time is starting earlier (i bought into the old general consensus that lvl 3 is the easiest lvl and once you’re by 2, 3 is just a formality, hahhahaha) anyway, I think mid october is reasonable rather than January. Also most seem to agree that you have to do the btw chapter problems from the curriculum (which I didn’t touch) and all the cfai mocks. Another study tool that def helped me at level 2 were the schweser do-it-yourself notecards. They discontinued them in 2009 but brought them back for 2010, they basically force you to take notes on every LOS, I personally learn by writing so by not doing them in 09 probably also hurt me. IMHO I do think that relying on old notes is a recipe for disaster even if you don’t plan on using them exclusively.
“And I guess the practice exams…but I wonder if they’ll even change those from last year to this year” No they dont change … I was a retaker in 2009 and since the curriculum barely changed I had ordered the 2009 practice exam books from them…but all questions were same as 2008 practice books …What a waste of money it was…

Hey Slash, Give Schweser a call if you are serious about ordering. I was in the same boat a few years back and they threw me a bone (maybe 20% discount?), not sure of the discount but remember they made it worth my while to order.
Hey guys - my 2 cents - I am going to buy Schweser but just the notes/books. I focused on CFAI only last year and it actually did me very well in the afternoon. I really think the biggest thing (for me at least) will be to practice those essays and practice under timed conditions. Also, as everyone seems to agree - I bought Qbank last year and it was a waste for L3. For those that used Schweser last year - were there a sufficient amount of practice problems for the IPS stuff??
I did Schweser last year with some back up from CFAI text in few areas. I did okay in PM but fall behind in the AM. For AM I did not hit hard some of the questions and got <50 in the Equity Investments, Risk Management & Performance Evaluation. It was definitly because of lack of practice but not sure if it was also because of not giving enough emphasis to CFAI text. There are not many practice example for AM in Schweser.
schweser gives a discount for just the Notes package for repeat candidates
Just called and only discount is on Premium and Premium Plus package…
But what is the discount on premium and premium plus package, is it 50% ?
I didn’t have to show proof of failing in 2005. I had to show proof of signing up for the next test. Else some people who failed might decide to purchase the schweser guides and resell them on ebay. I still think that the schweser guides are the best way to learn the LOS. What if you only use the textbooks and don’t get the right answer for the LOS? What if you don’t fully understand the LOS? The schweser guys each have a specific section and they try to answer the LOS is the best way possible. I just would NOT rely up Schweser for the end of chapter questions. (1) there are too few and (2) they give a lot of softball questions. While the end of chapter questions aren’t at the level of the exam, they are the best way to prepare for the exam. The CFAI books have questions of increasing difficulty. I bet if you just used Schweser for the LOS studies and the CFAI texts for the questions, you would do fine.
yes…50%
you may be able to get a 20-25% discount based on who you work for…if you work for a major company. I did this for each level…can’t hurt to try if you can’t get the repeater discount.
