Anyone been through the schweser online 3 day review course. Is it worth attending? Has Greg Filbeck, who has had mixed reviews on this forum, improved on his shortcomings. He is the instructor in the online review course.
i think it depends where you are in your progress and how you best retain information…
if a lecture/classroom setting is best for you to learn and retain, then yes, do it 100%. keep in mind though, the Scweser courses etc don’t really “teach” the material (i.e. those instructors are nothing compared to the king Peter Olinto from the old Stalla days).
if you don’t learn best in a classroom/lecture setting, i think it is still best to buy the 3-day review, but do not attend (hear me out). i am a retaker. i bought the 3day last yr but did not attend - i preferred to go through it on my own at my own pace (i space out in live sessions). you get access to a video recording of a live session (with the ability to pause and go back, or skip sections you’re great on, which is AWESOME). you will get a book with the slides they go through, along with another book of practice questions (which is great also). I went through the 24hr videos over the course of my final review the last 2+ weeks.
it was GREAT to skip through sections that i know cold (saves hrs of time to focus on stuff you don’t know), and it was GREAT to be able to rewind and review 2-3 times a topic you need to brush up on. plus, he gives some tips on “what to know” for different sections.
i would highly recommend it… however, to manage your expectations, please note that it is solely a REVIEW - if you are clueless on a topic or whatever, and might be thinking “oh now i’ll learn currency swaps, or instead of re-reading fixed income i’ll use the lecture,” they do not TEACH the material.
hope this helps. best of luck in your studies.
Thanks for the detailed response… this helps! I intend to use this now that I have gone through my first pass and to retain concepts better. However, any comment on the instructor?
For what it’s worth, I can’t stand watching Greg Filbeck. There is an air of arrogance about him that comes through his videos. And his high pitch voice drives me nuts. Technically, he’s ok but nothing great, another slide reader who propably hasn’t read the curriculum for years, if ever.
Thanks! Hope you pass on one message to Marc Lefebvre - to conduct online bootcamps so that candidates outside of the USA can consider his courses too. For now we have to take a call from what is available.
I hear you nassysab2, I agree. I have pitched it. He is concern about people recording the online bootcamps and then nobody will go to class. Piracy is a big problem bc he’s just one guy with a one man shop unlike the big corporations.
I even said how about a satellite video live class, and have a moderator on the other side of the world making sure nobody is recording illegally. He wouldn’t even have to fly anywhere. Then people can participate fr home (if online) or a common place (if a satellite) internationally and get material mailed to them. (My techy church does this, I get the 10am session at 6pm on a huge live-size screen and I can’t tell the difference!)
Will give him your feedback or you can email him yourself marc@levelupbootcamps.com. If more candidates tell him so, maybe he will listen. He also needs to do a weekly class like he did for Schweser but now use all his much better material and teach off the curriculum. Maybe next year, hopefully we both won’t be around to care…but I guess leaving “the world a better place” for the next generation of candidates.
+1
Second that - hopefully we would not be around here next year as Level III candidates.
