I have just enrolled in the CFA I program. I take it that Schweser notes are enough as a basis, and then I could build on that referring to the original CFA materials.
Could you, please, recommend any websites where the latest Schweser notes could be downloaded for free?
I have been through multiple sites, but they just redirect me to installing some programs and the only result so far has been infecting my PC with viruses.
You are paying hundreds of dollars for material you can purchase used, esp. previous year versions, for a small fraction of the price.
It is NOT illegal to resell books you purchased, even for digital versions (as long as they’re not copied and sold multiple times).
Buying PDF versions on eBay does run the risk that they WERE copied multiple times. You can check if there is a single copy listed, check if the seller is a highly rated mega seller (probably not risking his entire eBay business to sell pirated books), and even message the person to ensure they are selling a purchased copy. After having done so, you have made a purchase in good-faith, and run very little risk of facing legal consequence.
Is this ethical? Provided you do make a good faith effort to verify, absolutely. S2000 seems to think everything outside the most standard means of purchase is to be frowned upon. Some people are neither willing nor able to pay 300-400 for books. Its a shame to think everyone using eBooks are pirates.
If Publishers don’t charge outrageous prices for everything they wouldn’t face as much piracy. Profit is an important objective of companies, sure. But since publishing a new “version” every year and ripping off customers isn’t exactly noble, there’s no reason why customers shouldn’t shop around for the best option.
If I thought that, I would have written “definitely”, not “probably”. Go reread what I wrote.
Neither of which justifies copyright infringement.
The fact that it’s a shame doesn’t make it untrue. Alas.
How dare you blame the publishers for the illegal acts of pirates? You ought to be ashamed of your attitude. Are you saying that it’s Ferrari’s fault that people steal the cars they manufacture? Your outlook is pathetic.
Lol WOW!!! Way to get super defensive. Just because you use words like “probably” doesn’t mean the overall tone of your message wasn’t, “buy them from schweser” because eBay purchases are probably “pirated”.
I did read what you wrote, and the short sentences coupled with the repetitive and rather cynical, “As you should”, didn’t really come off as genuine advice for the OP. More like reprimanding someone who probably has budgetary restraints. He was merely asking if it was free.
Unwilling to pay 300-400 means copyright infringement? Really? I was suggesting cheaper options like USED books… You ever heard of those? Perhaps YOU should go reread what I wrote.
Shame to think eBooks are all pirated… Its not untrue? Really? You do know that Schweser themselves sell eBook versions, go check their website. For someone who’s such an active user of this forum, its a shame you’re so misinformed.
Did I blame the publishers for pirating? Perhaps. I was suggesting that there are reasons as to why black markets come about. And comparing Ferrari to eBooks is plain retarded. One is a physical good while the other concerns intellectual property. Your choice of comparison is pathetic.
No: selling pirated copies of the latest notes on E-bay means copyright infringement. Really.
And maybe you should reread what the original poster wrote: he was looking for the _ latest version _ of Schweser’s notes. _ For free. _ The only way to get the latest version for free is illegally.
Honestly, take a breath. I was responding to exactly what he asked; you weren’t.
Its a shame to think everyone using eBooks are pirates.
The fact that it’s a shame doesn’t make it untrue. Alas.
Your accusations were actually more broad. Not just eBay purchases, but every eBook is pirated.
Going beyond your choice of words, your post was not only of no help to the OP, but rather accusatory to my advice to him/her. It is very clear the OP wants cheaper alternatives, why else would he be looking for free sites. I was suggesting he try purchasing used material, particularly an electronic version.
I know you are an active user of AF and answer a lot of questions regarding actual material in CFA curriculum. Your superior knowledge in that regards doesn’t make you the crusader of all things correct. Candidates are vastly different and are in different circumstances. You should… probably… respect that.
