Can somebody advise on how one might leverage Series 7? Recently passed Level II, now looking to change career track after 7 years in corporate accounting/finance roles, any advice? Thanks.
if you have level 2 CFA, series 7 will be a joke. honestly, it is simple as heck relative to the CFA program
you’ll need the 7 if you jump to the sell side. also, you cant take the 7 unless a firm sponsers you, but you probably already know this i dont see much leverage in getting the 7. it is more like something you have to get instead of something one “chooses” to take like the CFA exams.
A comment by commstudent from this thread: http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?1,646098,646185#msg-646185 “Saying that youre more prepared for the job because you have the series 7 is like saying that you are more prepared because you have 5 sets of ironed work shirts vs someone who hasnt gone shopping yet.”
lol. I know trading assistants who have had parties after finally passing Series 3 (same as Series 7 but for futures instead of equities)…
one does not just take the s7 (or any reg exam for that matter) - one must be sponsored by a registered broker dealer. If you get a job that requires the S7, they will sponsor you, you will study for a couple of weeks, and take the exam. It is pass / fail, and nothing to worry about. Passing the s7, offers little or no competitive advantage over someone else.
Just a question, after passing LII, is there any waiver for any of the reg. exams? Thanks
Series 7 is not hard at all. Take 3 weeks and do practice exams the whole time.

Thanks Yes, you waive out of the 86 (analyst exam). To be a sell-side analyst, you need the 7, 63, 86, and 87, so passing L2 is marginally helpful in that regard.
^Thanks
after passing LII you actually get an exemption for both Series 86 and 87 (both are parts of the Research Analyst Qualification Exam)

Series 7 gives you…leverage? (o_O)
