Anyone else getting their a**es kicked by this session? i’m going to have to go through the readings again to hopefully conceptualize what seems like a whole of trivial pursuit knowledge right now. any advice out there?
Ha, I was just about to post this. I have no way to make any sense of this, it just seems like 100 different minute rules to memorize. I don’t know if there is any way to get good at it. The accounting on the CFA L II imo is incredibly poorly done, since it’s just a cram every IFRS v. GAAP difference you possibly can in your head and then try to spit it out come test day
i guess i’ll use the old "read it, make some flashcards, do some questions (make more flashcards), read it again, do more questions, then MOVE ON to other topics! you have to spend the time, but i don’t want to lose momentum either!
attend john harris’s accounting class. he makes things so crystal clear, memorization would not be needed…
+1 for John Harris, I took his class last year and aced FSA. He is incredibly good at teaching.
agreed, ss6 is brutal…hopefully I can cram enough of it into my head for exam day. Does anyone know if John Harris classes are available online?
no they are not.
Finquiz is offering study session 6 for free. Try that. It may help you in retaining all that stuff.
thanks, will check that out!
For a week per study session, SS6 is ridiculous. For me, Intercorporate, Pension and Currency translation in easily three- four days each. The first time I took exam, I found that I spent too much time on this SS and fell behind and never caught up, so any input as to how to approach is appreciated.
there is no shortcut. For the intercorporate… break up the session - HTM/HFT/AFS for each of these understand what is going on. On the currency translation - how does the entire thing hang together. What causes changes… Yes the first time, does take some time to get in. but once you have gotten past that hurdle - later on, your revisions will help reinforce. and be sure to go thro’ those review notes again a couple of days before the exams. IFS/GAAP is a big portion of this section. It does make sense to break up the section into smaller chunks so you can digest what is going on.
i just checked out this John Harris. he is coming to my city. I may consider his class.
I have an excellent Spreadsheet I put together on Foreign Currency translation that makes it clear if anyone would like.
I
Yes, of course!
email.
Kedgar- Anything that helps I’d greatly appreciate
So glad others are having a few issues with this SS as well. My strategy has been to work through it, get the basics down then will come back at the end for the details. I cant keep the investment classifications, pension assumptions and two multinational operations approaches in my brain on top of all the other SS’s.
