Sleepy Joe

Someone finally explained Bidenomics to me

I haven’t understood the GOP’s reluctance to aid Ukraine. The aid is peanuts compared to the US defense budget (880 billion in 2025). The US has provided approximately 150-200 billion in aid since February 2022, roughly 70 billion per year. Mother Russia is a regional superpower and one of US’s main adversaries. Being able to bog down Russia in a war of attrition by using 5-10% of defense budget and having no boots on the ground, looks to me like a very good position to be in.

US House of Representatives approves 2025 defence budget – media

That’s the argument used by the neocons, and I have no doubt that for those who play the Great Game, bogging down Russia is a good thing to do. The neocons have said as much.

Traditional US foreign policy was non-interventionist, described by Jefferson as ``peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations – entangling alliances with none.‘’
Trump was elected on a promise of a return to that, and `no more stupid wars.’

True, but this path was chosen. Doing stuff half-heartedly or stopping midway is usually the worst option. The consensus is that many people, especially in the global south, see the conflict as a measure of US’s influence and dominance - Russia’s victory or a tie could have quite the signal effect for others aspiring to challenge the US.

The US has been on the losing side in pretty much all major conflicts post-WW2: Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. Now challenge comes from a quite the different magnitude of an opponent. Losing this one not only is a negative for US’s influence but NATO/West as a whole.

One solution would be that Europe and the UK increase their funding of Ukraine.
EU defense spending in 2022 was an average of 1.3% of GDP. (all but three EU countries are NATO members) versus 3.4% for the US.

Yes, Europe needs to start paying for its own defense. Europe has relied way too much on Uncle Sam footing the bill. Sad!

I would like to see what would happen if Europe would give into Russia’s demands; Russia would have its way with Ukraine, Nordstream 1 and 2 would be repaired and trade relations reinstated. On top, both parties would agree to let bygones be bygones. This would put the US in a difficult situation as the US opposed both Nordstreams very heavily and is/was eyeing the market opportunities in Europe.

That would suit everyone.
The EU would once again have cheap energy and could ditch the Green Transition wind and solar.
The US could stop shipping LNG to Europe and instead use the NatGas to generate cheap electricity for the AI data centers everyone wants to build

I’m not sure about that natgas part. The pipelines were something the US heavily opposed. Repairing Nordstream 1 and ramping up Nordstream 2 would imo be a strategic blow to the US’s strategy in Europe.

i wouldnt consider russia a competitor. Though they are top 20 economy. We are 15x their size as they are only 2 trillion. Us spending money to inhibit a minor player is a poor strategy. I would rather have spent that forgiving my student loans. lol

Bro fooled by randomness was a good book, but Trump’s victory was about as statistically significant as it gets. LMAO. The cartoon that OP shared where Kamala is surrounded by shemales calling JD vance the weird one perfectly sums it up.

To be fair to Sleepy Joe, I’ll give a mention to retiring 81-year old Congresswoman Kay Granger (R, TX). She’s been in Congress since 1997, but didn’t run for re-election in November (2024).
(edit: I believe she’s officially a congresswoman until noon on 3 January 2025).
She last cast a vote in July (2024) and hasn’t been seen in the Capitol since then.
After a tip off, a local paper has found her living in a dementia care home, where she’s been since being found wandering lost and confused in her District.
I guess if you wander lost and confused in your District, you get put in a care home, but if you wander lost and confused in the White House garden, a G7 meeting, a NATO meeting, poop your pants at the D-Day anniversary, etc, nothing happens.

Biden going all the way to the end would’ve been a sight to see.

Biden still regrets dropping out of 2024 presidential race, believes he could have beaten Trump: report

On his final day in office, Sleepy Joe has issued pre-emptive pardons to Fauci, General Milley, and reportedly the entire Jan 6 panel in the House as well as anyone who testified before them.

Edit: added: and minutes before he left office, Sleepy Joe pre-emptively parodoned several family members: brother James Biden, sister-in-law Sara Jones Biden, younger sister Valerie Biden Owens, her husband John T Owens, brother Francis W Biden.

At some points Trump’s address was like a roast on Sleepy Joe. Poor guy looked like he wanted to be anywhere else except sitting by the podium.

With regard to the pardoned relatives,
$24M and counting
At some point, they’re flogging a dead horse.
He almost certainly did what they say he did, but he’s no longer in office and is cuckoo for cocoa pops.

He definitely isn’t all there. I wouldn’t worry about Joe. Democrat leaders did us dirty hiding how senile he was.

They really did. What was the end game in Sleepy Joe running for 2nd term? Did they think no one would notice the guy couldn’t put together a sentence?

The Dem’s (lack of) strategy since 2016 is going to face quite a bit scrutiny in the coming years. Their focus on issues that resonate little with the working class, their failure to elevate a leader capable of defeating Trump, and their apparent disconnect from everyday Americans who simply want to live normal lives, are just some issues that need to be discussed. I’m honestly pretty dumbfounded about how bad their navigated 2016-2024. Pure comedy show.
