I’m new at my office and have gotten friendly with a CTP. Before I said anything about the CFA, he told me that he came from a big corporate background where they highly value the CFA and he respects anyone that can go the distance.
He even offered to sit down and help me out with the CFA material. I’d like to (find an excuse to) collaborate with him, but I’m unsure how much of the CTP material is related to the CFA, or how much of his day-to-day duties relate to the CFA. Someone plz provide some color on this.
I just did a indeed.com search for CTP. One of the top results was for a check cashing store.
The CTP is not bad in itself, but it is not respected like the CFA, nor as difficult. I think the whole Treasury Management book is ~400 pages. One level of the CFA is 4,000 pages.
From guys I know who used to be at the Fed, this designation is little more than a money making scheme. (Meaning the CE requirements are huge, and the only way to earn them are to attend THIER paid seminars).
I personally know no one with the designation, and deal directly with many desks in tthe cash/repo space. Either no one has it, or no one thinks it worthwhile to advertise…
