Sr. Financial Analyst (Strategic Finance Analytics)
Position Description:
This position will provide financial and business analysis support for one of Discover’s business units. The role offers an exciting opportunity for a detailed, intellectually curious, and analytical minded candidate with experience dealing with ambiguity. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with large quantities of data, building complex financial models, and driving actionable insights to influence multiple business partners. The position is based in Riverwoods, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Discover also offers a satellite office conveniently located in downtown Chicago.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with marketing, product, and operations groups to develop detailed financial analyses including profitability, pricing, and cost optimization
- Provide strategic advice and financial analysis for investment decisions, including new product development
- Ability to work with large amounts of data to develop and enhance complex financial models such as account /segment level valuation models to improve forecasting accuracy and drive new business insights
- Perform detailed competitive analysis to drive strategic insights and actions
- Provide and implement a framework to drive fact-based decisions Continuously improve and streamline analytics processes
- Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
Skills Required:
- 4 plus years of experience in financial analysis, business analysis, consulting, investment banking, or equivalent experience in consulting, investment banking, credit card, banking and other financial institutions
- Experience in financial modeling and data driven financial analysis (NPV, IRR, etc)
- Strong level of financial and business acumen to be able to drive results for breadth of initiatives
- High level of critical thinking to formulate business issues into analytical problems and devise actionable solutions
- Robust communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills
- Must have ability to interact and partner effectively at multiple levels of the organization
- Strong experience and proficiency with Excel
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, quantitative field or related discipline
Skills Desired:
- MBA, CFA, or related qualifications a plus
- Consumer or commercial banking industry experience a plus
