Starting prep for June '16 L2 soon, where to start?

My plans to take L2 in June with the rest of you got thrown off by suddenly getting a new job. New plan is to sit for the 2016 exam. Now that I am settled in at the new job, I am thinking I may as well just start preparing for L2 now. Keeping in mind what a beast L2 is, I am hoping to turn the study process into something more managable spread out over a year or so. So, here comes my question: what parts of the curriculum are least likely to change? What parts will definitely get changed? I want to spend extra time on FRA in particular, is this section likely to see major changes?

I think your guess would be as good as ours on “what parts of course are gonna change or not”. IMO Starting 14-12 months before…i only see burn out after 6 months.

FRA seems the prime candidate for revisions, especially if IRS and U.S. GAAP converge on LIFO vs. FIFO and operational vs capital leases among other issues. Whether that happens before the '16 curriculum is out, I don’t know. Perhaps there have been developments I’m not aware of, as in my life outside of being a CFA candidate, I can’t care less about accounting standards.

But to Goblin’s point, unless you have a flawless memory or unless you know you’re going to struggle on some specific topics that are less familiar to your background (and even then!), starting now=OVERKILL. I’d enjoy the spring and summer and start by September. Even for the busiest of us that’s more than enough time to cover the material and then review it thoroughly.

How in the f**k is anyone posting on the board supposed to know what parts of the curriculum are going to change between 2015 and 2016?

when dpes the 2016 curricumulum come out?

around 3 weeks more to wait…

I think that curriculum won’t chage too much, it already changed from 2014…

Quant is probably the least likely to change. Regressions are pretty standard mathematical procedures; not much to change.

Later part of equity, starting from DDM will most likely not change.

This should take you 3 weeks easily.
