Strategist positions at investment banks

Anyone have any insight on how this job function is different from equity/credit research positions? Is the career track/ exit opportunities and pay similar to other analyst positions?

Usually, it’s like sell side research, but focuses on macro themes, not individual companies. You write some kind of research or newsletter, sometimes talk to clients, and do all that other sell side stuff. The most famous one right now is probably JPM Marko - you can look up some of his writings to get an idea. Of course, some companies use the term generically, so it would be worth clarifying before you sign anything…

Not sure about exit opportunities. I imagine it would be less than equity research, since this seems to involve fewer fundamental skills, and there are only so many macro talking head firms to recruit you. It seems like the best asset you will cultivate is selling skills and an industry network that you can use for semi related roles. This is just speculation.
