Suits

both of mine are custom-tailored. gives me the flexibility to choose my own materials and cut nuances. nothing like it.

I dunno I had an old roomate who was a scam artist for ameriprise, and he always talked about his “custom tailored” suits. biggest piece of shit suits I have ever seen in my entire life. Should have bought them at wal mart.

Tailored are really good if your tailor is competent and has access to top quality fabrics. I also go custom tailor with an old guy who’s been also doing my father’s suits for decades. Very happy with the results. In the end, if someone’s as ugly as a racoon it doesn’t matter which brand he buys anyway.

How can somebody forget to close the sleeve buttons? Do people open them to take the jacket of? Keeping your sleeve buttons open was a sign of a bespoke suit, nowadays it is also available on made-to-measure suits (opposed to off-the-rack suits)

anybody know a good tailor who will do custom suits in boston?

Anyone want to offer their opinion on slim fitting suits?

Why don’t people just get suits that fit them? I think all this “slim fitting” suit nonsense is just…nonsense. There are different CUTS and STYLES out there, but ultimately every suit should fit you the way it’s meant to fit you, and that all starts with proper shoulder measurements, pit-to-pit measurements, sleeve lengths, and overall jacket length. If you ever have a jacket made for you, you’ll realize they take a ton more measurements than what I just specified, but if you’re ever just looking to buy stuff off the rack which is something we all do, those are the four measurements that you ought to be principally concerned with. How you choose to cut the lapels, how high the armholes are, how much waist suppression there is, where the top button is located, how the sides roll and other types of sartorial concerns are a matter of *style* as opposed to fit… Just wanted to clarify this matter before people on this thread run out to some random tailor and buy suits that are too sizes too slim for them.

I just saw a picture of a manager in one of the many industry mags that come across my desk with the last button on his jacket sleeves undone…thought it was tacky, as in saying, “Look Ma I’m wearing [potentially] as custom made suit.”

Anyone have experience with this company before? : http://www.mysuitny.com/website/index.html Apparently its MTM-custom suits at 599, 799, and 999 price points - there’s a location in New York (Herald Square) that I pass by every day… always tempted to go in but still waiting for comp… would love some feedback from someone who has been

What a joker. He’s probably one of the Ed Hardy Boyz… http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/cd14a180a2/ed-hardy-boyz

I got a phat-@ss HB suit @ WB for fiddy off, top dat.

numi, how do you rate MTM as an alternative to bespoke?

Hey AliMan, that really depends – a lot of the time I think “bespoke” gets a lot of praise because it requires a lot more handiwork and things like that, but the actual quality depends on who does the bespoke and who does the MTM for you. MTM can be great too if it’s done by the right tailors. In general, bespoke requires more measurements and a lot more work because you’re building a suit from scratch, but if you go to a tailor that’s not that good, you could end up getting a pretty crappy suit even if it’s “bespoke”. Let me know where you are and I can try to provide some recommendations…
