Surprise square root questions in interviews

The vicious type that you don’t expect, like : Interviewer: “So please walk me through your CV ?” You : “[insert bla bla bla]” Interviewer “Oh I see. What is the square root of 0,4?” What % of candidates do you think screw it up ? What % of candidates who are called for next round of interview screwed it up ? Has it ever happened to you ?

lol @ easy questions

My last interview I got a dumb question. What is the return if the price goes from 2 to 3?

Every now and then I get one of those really rapid fire interviews, like: Q: Would you like some water? A: Yes. Q: How many moons does Mars have? A: 2. Q: Give me a projection for oil prices in one year and supporting rationale. A: Who needs oil? I ride the bus. Q: What did you have for lunch yesterday? A: I skipped lunch because I was working. I don’t need lunch. Q: Please tell me about your accomplishments. A: I optimized…and generated…which also saved…and contributed to a track record of… Q: How many seeds are there in the grapes it would take to fill the balls in the Chuck-e-Cheese ball pit? A: Kids pee in there. Q: If nice guys finish last and cheaters never prosper what is the way to true enlightenment? A: All significant battles are won within the self. Q: Show me the money. A: $$ Q: What is L^P A: sqrt(w) Q: 22? A: Yes. Q: Would you like a bathroom break? A: Signs point to yes. In all seriousness, has anybody tried bringing in a magic eight ball for the yes or no questions? Could be helpful.

once i got “what is 1/16 in decimal form?” another favorite at this company is “why are manhole covers round?”

Ha ha, I got that one before, I don’t remember what the number was…but I couldn’t figure out the decimals between I just said it was between two whole numbers. I got called back so it must have been fine. They also asked other ones like, is it ever ok to lie? If you could have lunch with anyone who would it be? What was the closing stock price of x? etc.

The way I would do the 1/16 one is I know off the top of my head that 1/8 is .125 (cause 8 * .125 = 1), and 1/2 of 1/8 = 1/16, so 1/2 of .125 = .0625.

Square root of 0.4 = 2 * pi divided by the square root of 10pi^2. See if they like that!

Why is a manhole cover round?

manhole covers are round because the holes are round. end of discussion.

Circular covers cannot fall through.

eureka Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Circular covers cannot fall through. I don’t believe that is the answer - manhole covers are round because no matter the shape (square, triangle, shaped like a duck) of the drill used, the hole will always end up circular.

eureka Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Circular covers cannot fall through. Some friends and I almost took a crowbar to a manhole cover after we watched Secret of the Ooze.
