Suspect CFA claim on resume

i think you should just warn her yourself if she is lying and end it there.

Personally, I sacrificed a lot of my life for L2, and still only passed on the 2nd try. I’m proud to state on my own resume I am a L3 candidate, and it’s incredibly wrong for someone who didn’t work for it to claim credit, and then try to top people who are legit L3 job candidates. I agree with SuperiorReturn, if she turns out honest, she’ll be fine, and I help her out. Life proceeds as usual. If not… I’ll let you guys know what CFAI responds with. I won’t post her info because of privacy, but I’ll share the results.

Don’t be such a harda$$. Contact the girl and tell her you want to confirm her CFAI status because you thought she was a L2 candidate. Tell her HR will check with CFAI and you don’t want her to get in trouble with CFAI for a typo on her resume. If she is still L2, she will almost certainly take the out you have given her to correct the typo and she will have learned a lesson. If she insists she is a L3 candidate, she probably is and and your source is mistaken.

it all boils down to how much of an a-hole you want to be. you saw her resume, but you only heard she passed level I. you can simply call cfai to ask what her status is. if she lied, i would just leave it alone and totally forget she even exists save for offered favors. kharma is a bizatch like that…

Alright, I just sent an email to the girl asking if she is sure she is fully registered to take L3 in 2011, since even if you passed L2 and didn’t register for L3, you can’t write “L3 Candidate” anyway…

let us know what happens

If you could also send a follow up email asking her if she happend to miss a flight for an interview yesterday that would be great. Cheers

^ haha sure, I’ll casually ask her that

i would tell her that a potential employers employer needed to see copies of her certificates. three things can happen, if the story is a fake she will either play hide and seek on the certificates request, alternatively she will disclose it was a fake- in both cases you will ignore her request and she will know the reasons the other possibility is that indeed she is a L3 candidates, you will go ahead to assist her find an opportunity…

Just call her out on it. I reviewed a friend’s resume once where he said he had the Series 6 when he only studied for it and never took the exam. . . I pretty much called him a douche for (1) lying and (2) for lying about passing the Series 6. He agreed it was lame and there was little to be gained from it.

New Development- Got a reply back, and she goes: “Yes I am registered for L3 next year”. She also mentions passing L2 years ago, so the scores are lost, they can’t be sent to me, and she didn’t keep a copy. Am I the only one who keeps screenshots of their exam score? This year, I just kept the CFAI results email, but prior years I took a screenshot and saved the picture file…

I printed the screen showing the scores (for both levels) - Looking to it at the beginning and at the end of my study permits to focus slightly more on my weakest topics

My employer asked for my level 1 receipt during the interview process in May to be sure I was a candidate, there are two ways to verify the status: - you go on the cfa website, my cfa, and after you log in on the left corner of the page the candidate info: name, candidate number and status: “Registered for the 2011 Level … Exam” is displayed. You can ask for a screenshot of that, there is no excuse for not being able to send it it’s on the website and you have to have an account to register for the exam, right? -after you’ve logged in to mycfa, you go to ‘manage account’, and at the bottom of the page you click on ‘CFA Institute Account’. There is a ‘Payment History’ tab there, with the summary of all of your payments for the CFAI exams. You click on the order number and there is a detailed explanation of what you paid for. Mine says : Ouantity: 1 Item: 2010 June CFA Level I Exam And you click ‘Order receipt’ and print the information. She can not send you the results, but there is no excuse for not being able to show the payment of each and every exam you have taken. She may be able to make an excuse that the CFAI did not have this system years ago, but they have it now and if she is not able to send you the receipt for level 3 next year it means she is lying. And you have to have passed levels 1 and 2 to be able to pay for level 3, so if she does send it that’s all the info you need. Hope this helps :slight_smile: Edit: if you suspect she is lying, maybe the screenshot is better, more difficult to forge that imo.

I bet she’s prolly reading all this and having a good laugh (or freaking out)… Three things you can do here: 1) Proof of L3 candidate registration page or 2) T.i.T.s or A.s.s. or 3) GTFO

Just call CFAI and ask them to confirm. You’re really supposed to do that anyway (it’s in the Standards of Practice, though if you are not a charterholder or a candidate, you’re exempt from the requirement of confirming the truthfulness of the claim).

New Development- After her last reply, I got really skeptical. who wouldn’t? I wrote CFAI to ask about the concern I had without giving any info. Reply came back FAST. Names have ALL been changed for everyone’s privacy. “” Dear Mr. , Thank you for your e-mail. Please send the information you received from this person. I believe I can only verify to a third party whether someone is a CFA charterholder or candidate in the CFA Program. I don’t believe I can verify to a third party whether someone has passed a certain Level of the CFA Exam. That might be confidential. I will check to see if I can verify that for you though. Still, we would like to verify on our own that the information she provided in her resume is correct. And if it is not, then we would take the appropriate action. It’s a very serious matter when someone misrepresents their candidacy or charterholder or membership status. If we find that the person is misrepresenting herself as a Level III candidate and/or member, then we would take appropriate action. We would not reveal you as the source of the information provided, but please know that it is possible, that she might figure out who provided the information. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and please consider providing us with the information you have. Best regards, “”
