Suspect CFA claim on resume

This one girl who has been desperate for a job got to know me through a mutual friend, and I agreed to look at her resume and perhaps pass it along if I saw any openings in my firm. When I got the resume, it states she is a CFA L3 candidate. Problem is, I’ve heard she only recently passed L1 and didn’t even register for L2 yet. What should I do? I don’t think there is any way to verify a candidate and which levels they have passed.

I think you should tell her that’s BS and PCP will whack her hard if they find out about it. Just have her fix the problem and be really righteously indignant about it. (PCP really will smack her with a serious suspension for that kind of bogus claim).

Call CFAI – they will verify it (or not)

I decided to look it up in the bible just in case. "CFA Institute encourages members, nonmembers, clients, and the investing public to report violations of the Code and Standards by CFA Institute members or CFA candidates by submitting a complaint in writing to the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Program: E-mail pconduct@cfainstitute.org or visit the CFA Institute website at www.cfainstitute.org. "

You should threaten to expose her unless she gives you a ss.

Then afterwards, just to earn some street cred, report the b1tch

I hope this isn’t the same girl who missed the flight for leaving home late.

Could be an honest error - just ask her?

no way is something like this an honest error.

Are you sure she isn’t a real L3 candidate? Could the source be mistaken?

I’ve seen people pad their resumes like this in the past. I think it’s outrageous as she might get the job on this basis and people who are REAL L3 candidates would be passed over. but sure, OP could have heard wrong … but this false CFA candidacy claiminig is going on, whether from this instance or in others, as people are desperate

The mutual friend is a very good friend of mine and I definitely trust this person. She heard it directly from the girl who submitted her resume to me that she only passed L1. It’s highly unlikely the information would be wrong. Why would anyone downgrade themselves anyway? Why tell a friend you only passed L1, if you really passed L2 and registered for L3? I have her resume, I think I’m going to write to CFAI and inquire about it.

Definitely report to CFAI. If she indeed lied about her candidacy, she deserves to get whacked.

she can print her lvl 2 results on the cfa website. You should ask her if you can see the pass result

If you pass it along to your employer and they find out the L3 claim is false, you may get dinged for it too.

Did she put 2/2?

i wouldn’t jump to conclusions. I dont think you need to damage this girls future for something like this. if you don’t feel comfortable with her resume, then dont help her.

If she’s lying, screw her.

If it was me, I’d probably just do nothing with her resume - partly out of laziness though. If you want to report it to CFAI, sure. She’ll only get in trouble if she’s guilty anyway.
