They had 58 democrats and 2 independents for a 4 month period at the end of 2009/beginning of 2010. The 2 independents were Lieberman and Sanders. They also cared enough about getting Obama nominees through in 2013 to invoke the nuclear option. Why wasn’t gun control important enough in 2009 or 2010 to go nuclear then?
The same Lieberman that killed the real Obamacare and nuked the public option? Its not like he was a sure vote on anything. And I am not sure how I am supposed to answer the other question, who knows I was not privy to those discussions. Likely because that early in the term they didnt think going nuclear was a good idea or because its likely only worth it for a lifelong SC judgeship.
I wasn’t really referring to elections per se, merely that the people you are trying to proclaim as dead are anything but. I see a lot of activism on the streets and on social media. There is a strong resistance to the agenda Trump is trying to push. He didn’t obliterate anyone.
Should this even be called a terrorist attack? I’d say people are more annoyed than terrified at the moment. Seriously, the first thing I thought about was whether my commute would be affected. So maybe it’s more like an annoyist attack?
I was also a bit disturbed that was my first though, and I was proven correct as my train was pretty crowded… my commute was about 10 minutes more than normal.
They had at least even odds of getting something through and they chose not to not even try. In contrast, since losing total control of congress, democrats have introduced more than 100 gun control proposals, despite 0% chance of getting them through. To summarize, 0 proposals when they had at least a 50% chance of getting something through; 100+ when they had 0% of chance of getting anything through. What is it you were saying about wasting political capital? Those 100+ post-2010 gun control proposals were as pointless as the 1 billion republican votes to repeal Obamacare.
I believe Bernie is against gun control at the federal level and something that the states should deal with, something that HRC tried to kill him for during the primary.
The fact remains that democrats could have gotten something through. Would it have been a complete ban on all firearms in private hands? No, but it would have been more than the nothing that they got through by not even trying. Republicans have clearly done the same thing on a number of issues, Obamacare being the most recent, but it’s pretty clear that gun control is nothing more than a talking point for a very large number of democratic politicians. It is not something they actually feel strongly enough about to affect change when they have the chance. The numbers don’t lie. 0 bills introduced while in control of the WH and both houses of congress, 100+ since losing total control. Democratic voters who honestly care about gun control, and republicans too, should ask any longtime members of congress in their district where the bills were in 2009 & 2010, because votes for gun control since then are nothing but campaign filler.
