The Billionaire Plumber

That’s a great article.

typically defined as front office, revenue-generating, generally client facing roles that pay well

AF is known for harsh judgements which includes derogatory, racism, and sexism.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/07/17/plumbers-union-apprenticeship-program/ And as usual with most union and government jobs, actual compensation is not close to reflected in the wage. My guess is you can safely double the wage for comparison.

Plumbers and fitting professionals are in high demand. While most plumbers do not require a college diploma, they must complete years of training in order to obtain a full licence. Unions represent approximately 30% of plumbers and pipe fitters. Local 1 trainees begin at $14 per hour and earn more than $50 per hour after finishing a five-year apprenticeship and passing a test to graduate to journeyman plumber level.

Lol I’ve never seen this thread. Now all the plumber jokes over af makes sense. Anyways in the Philippines there’s a lot of cheap plumbers. Just import them here they make like 2 bucks an hr. I always find it hilarious why the us glorifies blue collar workers while in my country they are just the relatives of the help.

whats everyone thoughts on an hvac career?

I know HVAC type businesses are popular among the search fund crowd. Not sure how many have been bought, but it is commonly mentioned.

what is search fund crowd? I’m giving advice to a 20 yo. he said he hate school. he wanted to do hvac. i told him to do electrician or plumbing instead. i did a quick research and found hvac are the least paid with less job opps. also overall i still think blue collar work is inferior to finance. but i guess you gotta go with what you can do.

MBA school students raise money from alumni, graduate school, and use the money to find a business to buy. Once they buy it, they become CEO. The returns of the search funds has been pretty great for the alumni networks. And the goal is the MBA get to use their big brains in less formalized industries (like hvac) to scale and sell the company.
